Who is our starting tight end?

I think it's a toss up at this point. The only one that I don't think has a shot at it is Gathers, although I think there is a chance Gathers gets the 2nd most playing time among the TE's. Gathers isn't going to have the overall experience and knowledge to be the every down guy.

My personal bet is Jarwin, but I wouldn't bet the house.

I'll say this much...

After watching film on all 4 remaining TEs, the rookie Dalton Shultz looks the most sound with his route running, cuts, hand fighting/space creating and hands catching. If he can improve on his blocking, Cowboys could have found a hidden gem in the 6th round.

Any JAG will suffice. We just need someone to block well and catch 200-300 yards and a few TDs. The days of the TE being a top option in the passing game is done!

I believe Dallas will use more FB and Austin to compensate for TE. I think Dallas will use less TE this season.

They will rotate the position though, imo.

I think there will almost always be a TE in the game, but I don't know that the TE's will be targeted as much. I think you may be right about all of them being used, at least until/unless one starts to stand out.

Hope for the best!

Other than we have no proven TE at this point, is there another reason you believe the days of the TE being a top option in the passing game are done? Do you think that's the case regardless of who the TE is, or if we have or acquire a TE who has the ability to be a significant receiving threat?

I say the more options the better. Keep 'em guessing. Swaim had some good catches.

I don't know who it will be this season, but next season it will be Jarwin.

As of the roster right now, the way they have rebuilt the WR corps leads me to believe they'd be looking at running more 4-WR formations to get them all on the field and that will be a nice change to bring more speed. If they do upgrade the TE position a year from now then that's fine as well. We just need more speed in the passing game, it doesn't matter if it's at WR or TE. It definitely wasn't coming under the old offense with Dez and Witten getting the bulk of the targets.
