I don't know which player we should tank for but this team was doomed from the lack of moves we made this off season.
It was no secret last year that we had no speed or play makers on offense even with Dez & Witten. Our play makers needed an overhaul and the front office actually chose to do nothing about it. We make zero effort to improve the team on offense.
Did our front office believe having Zeke back, and drafting Gallup we were going to recreate our triplets from the 90's heyday?
From someone who is in his very early 40's.. ~41... team building has always been about culture. That is really where it all begins. Think back to when Jimmy took over in 89, this team really had no talent, yes Jimmy was smart enough to trade Herschel to the Vikings and as we know the rest is history. There is always going to be a key point to change a teams fortunes.
Losing was not tolerated, from him cutting guys who would shake hands and smile after the game with the opponent. To cutting someone who fell asleep in a meeting, to him being miserable the week after a loss. Every player and coach knew what was expected of them during Jimmy's tenure. He changed the game.. I'm not sure if guys remember how innovative those teams were, going for it on 4th down, throwing from their own endzone against the Skins in 92, we actually lost that game cuz Irving fumbled.
Up 24-20 in championship game, throwing the slant to Harper for that 70 yard gain, putting the niners away. Imagine the balls to make that play instead of three straight runs to kill the clock.
Pulling out all the stops to beat an undefeated Skins team in 91, hailmary at the end of the half, onside kick to begin the second half.
We have a coach right now who does what? He doesn't run the offense, defense, special teams.. he is not the QB coach or the play caller. All he does is clap and spit on the sideline. Doesn't know what play to challenge, or manage time outs.
Going back to culture, all the great coaches in the NFL from the top down change an organization from the culture on down.
Look at Bill in NE, Parcels where ever he has gone, Sean McVeigh in LA, Pete Carroll in Seattle. Bill Walsh, Jimmy Johnson.
