Who is your ‘must have’?

don’t agree at all
We need a real DT way more than a DE
A great DT will make our current DEs way better
If there is a DE in rd 3 worth it, fine, otherwise I’d rather go TE in rd 3

IMO, TE is just not worth the value in round 1. It’s the 22nd most important position between offense and defense.

But I agree with DT as well, best case you get multiple Dlineman.

You read my mind on Sam Williams. It nukes my mind how a guy that athletic and that productive is being graded in the third round.

Do a blind test of his stats, measurables, grades, etc, vs Mafe, Ojabo, and Ebitabake. They're all close to identical, but the former 3 are getting like 25-40 type grades and Willams is like 90.
Off field issues according to Brugler. Could be another Joseph or might be Parsons.

Here’s a wonky stat for you:

Cowboys are the only team in the National Football League to not draft a single Defensive Tackle in the first round during your 26 year “run”.

I don't know if there's one must have for me. It's a bit of a boring draft and hard to get attached, especially when the franchise is so inept and has completely dismantled any trust I had in their competence.

If I had to pick a player we absolutely needed, it'd be Green.

If I had to pick I player I absolutely wanted, it'd be Mafe

If I had to pick a player we needed and I wanted, it'd be Linderbaum.

If you are talking biggest need.....LG......take Green/ZJohnson in that order.
If you are talking biggest impact.....1T......JDavis........If he plays up to his ceiling, he has the ability to make everyone on the D better and to raise the level of D a level. I am not saying he will, but that Georgia D has an awful lot of guys getting drafted high now, and I don't think they get drafted as high if it isn't for JDavis. I like TJones, but you don't hear of anyone else on that UConn D getting drafted in the top couple of rounds, and while he had a great Senior Bowl, JDavis made players around him.

I think Quinn is confident in the combinations of Lawrence/Golston on one side and Armstrong/Fowler on the other

I think if it’s not Sam Williams, they will wait to pull the trigger
Quinn is an idiot then.

I don’t really have a must have player I just like hitting home runs on value.

I do feel like we have to walk away from this draft with a G and DE fairly early.

I agree unless we can get an offensive tackle like Cross. I saw that London did not run his 40. Here’s hoping that 6 wide receivers go before 24.

I mean, you have to trust the guy with a Super Bowl ring who is well respected amongst the league and players.

This isn’t Marinelli, Nolan, Kiffin or Ryan. Quinn knows what he is doing.

He has coached all of these guys before and knows what they can and cannot do.

Here is my ideal “must have” draft

rd 1: JDavis or TJones (DT starter)
Rd 2: Kinnard or Ryan (LOG srarter)
Rd 3a: Sam Williams
Rd 3b: trade up for Ruckert or Woods

these 4 picks will solve a lot of problems

Day 2. There is probably not much chance of it but I think Josh Paschal would be an excellent pick. I think he would instantly upgrade our run defense and he would be an excellent candidate to move inside on passing downs. On Plug and Play, Dane lit up when he talked about him.

Overview
Fully grown defender with the play strength and versatility to contribute in odd or even fronts. Paschal's urgent, full-tilt demeanor helps him control his fair share of engagements, but it also leads to occasional lapses in footwork and balance. He's like a block of granite at the point of attack with low pads and a heavy anchor. He has the twitch to see-and-shed against single blocks and the range to make a tackle a gap away. His face-up rush style lacks elusiveness and will see limited success off the edge, but his snap quickness fits perfectly as an interior rusher in sub-packages. Paschal might never be a star, but he's a good future starter with winning character that coaches and fans will grow to love.
Strengths
  • Only three-time full-season captain in school history.
  • Big personality who loves the game.
  • Stocky lower half from his hips to his ankles.
  • Comes off the ball low, square and with a compact punch.
  • Bends and grows roots to leverage and counter drive blockers.
  • Full recognition and response for contain duties.
  • Forceful tackler with excellent shed power and timing.
  • Initial quickness offers quick-win potential as interior rusher.
  • Wide lateral steps take him quickly to the edge.
  • Attacks with heavy but sudden hands.
  • Highly determined once he finds the backfield.

Do you have one player in this upcoming draft that you feel that the Cowboys just have to draft in order for it to be a success in your mind?

Obviously it’s just a matter of personal preference, but mine would have to be Ole Miss edge Sam Williams.

I have several other pet cats that I would love to have that I typically take in my mock drafts like:
  1. Tyler Smith
  2. Calvin Austin III
  3. Jelani Woods
  4. Dohnovan West
But for me, we have to get another edge player for now and the future and Williams keeps looking like the best value.

But I’m not getting cute and I’m taking him in round 2 if he’s still there and not risking losing out.

I’m curious to hear if anyone else has a ‘must gave’ player or two?
2 of 3 from
Travis Jones
Tyler Smith
Zion

3rd round
Sam Williams
TE Woods or Otton

The best WR in the draft is J. Williams but this is not the year to draft a redshirt player early.

I like Paschal a whole lot too. He’s a guy that I hope somehow find his way to Dallas in the draft.

I would love to trade down in this draft, personally, and take 10-11 players in this draff.

Troy Andersen, especially if he falls to the 3rd, which I don't see happening.

I also like some things about Amare Barno and Haskell Garrett.

If Olave is there in the 1st, I think you have to take him. However, I don't think he's there.

Pretty sure he goes to the Saints.

I'd be happy with Treylon Burks.

To me, the way I see it, the Cowboys know they have Anthony Hitchens back if they want him (he's expressed interest in coming back to Dallas, per Rob Phillips.)

So, they're set to take the player ranked highest on their boards.

I would really like to see a trade down this year...
