Who lasts longer: Shotty or Dak?

You can't blame Dak entirely for JG and MM not being retained, but you can't pretend he didn't play a role, either. Dak's failures in the playoffs surely didn't help the coaches.

Schottenheimer signed a 4 year deal. He will coach the whole deal because Jerry is cheap and won’t pay him out.

Dak will be here less time because he can be cut sooner.
surprised jerry didn't make it non guaranteed money. not like he had any other offers.

Dak lasts longer.
Just because of the marketing.
I'll add that Milton does poorly when called upon and Shotty does not win enough games to keep Jerry's infamous relevance standard.

Dak is last man standing over Shotty.

Fun times to be a fan.
Cowboys!

Dak is on far firmer ground than our newly minted HC bc of his contract. We are stuck with Dak through the 2027 season at a minimum.

Another 7-10 or worse and I could see Eberflus taking over next season. Jerry's gettin old and he wants 12+ wins every year now.

I made a post that pertained to this in another thread but the post got me to thinking about this and I thought it is an idea that is worth discussing on its own merits.

Dak seems to be a coach killer. Who lasts longer as a Cowboy—Shotty or Dak? And why?
My guess is they will last about the same amount of time as when Dak goes, the coach probably goes too unless he's very successful.

Shotty will be fine after he and the Cowboy brain trust follow in the Atlanta Falcon's footsteps and draft Prescott's replacement in 2026. Prescott will be exposed for the bum he really is in 2025 when the Boys battle the Giants for the 3rd spot in the Eastern Div.

Both gone at the same time.

And Dak didn't kill Garrett. Perhaps other way around Garrett ruined Romo and Dak
I think it’s at least POSSIBLE that Kellen Moore ruined Dak. Dak was a very good, risk averse bus driver his rookie year. He made much better decisions with the football THEN as a rookie than he does now.

Kellen Moore’s get greedy idea that he sold Dak on has seemingly permeated a large swath of Dak’s thinking, maybe even beyond just his play.

IMHO the game of football MUST be simplified for Dak because he has become a deer in the headlights. The running game will be a big part of that.

Dak must become more risk averse again, or I don’t think he will ever sniff a SB.

He played a role but too many are putting it entirely on him. It’s funny how the lame brains who blame it all in him defend our defense that’s held the team back more than anthing in postseason.

That’s a ridiculous comment. If that was true he would have been gone a long time ago. No team re-signs a coach killer to the biggest contract in NFL history. Some of you continue to put the entire blame on him.
You do realize this is the Cowboys we are talking about here, right?

They will both leave at the same time.

Dak and Schotty's contracts have the same length. Dak is effectively uncuttable before then, and Jerry HATES paying dead money to coaches.

Shotty is building relationships, and if he succeeds in building the family atmosphere he's looking to build he'll last longer than Dak. JG lasted longer than he should've because of the culture he got Jerry to buy into.

If we didn’t re-sign him to that contract he likely would have made more in free agency. Everyone acts like he’s the number one problem with the team and that we’re the only ones that would have paid him.

That's a good question. Dak has been here a while and has almost worn out his welcome. On the other hand, I get the feeling BS is on a short leash with the Jones. He may only get this one season to turn things around. With Dak being on the first year of his expensive guaranteed extension, he will probably survive another year no matter what. BS, however, is a plug-in and play guy meaning he can be easily replaced. I guess my answer is Dak will last longer.
Isn’t BS on a four year guaranteed contract. Jerry may terminate a coach before his contract is up, but not with three years left on it. Dak is untradable for a variety of reasons. They’d both be here through 2027, at least.

No one but...Jerry.

Best case scenario is they leave together and a real HC gets to choose his QB.
How do you say "real HC"? your avatar, crying boy, was a nobody before being a HC and so was Baltimore's Harbaugh really. Maybe he amounts to something maybe he doesn't but you don't know.

The league wants to hire young up and coming assistants. Mike is/was a very good overall head coach (he might get another opportunity eventually). Jason is a guy that has inside connections with this squad, but no real stand out coaching talents.
Yet Dan Quinn got hired last year and Pete Carroll this year…..

Its a coin flip, but Schottenheimer will be here longer than Dak IMO. Jerry isnt quick to let a coach go these days, and I would think there is a fairly good chance the Cowboys use the out on Daks contract after 2027. Possibly sooner if they believe Milton can play, but that is very much TBD.
:clap:Agree 1000%
I think Dak is looking at a 2 year window ( 2025 and 2026 ) to avoid fighting for his starting job in 2027. His contracts become more tradable 2027 ( of course, with his consent).

Who lasts longer: Shotty or Dak?

If this was Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, I would use one of my lifelines and call the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. Because, he, umm, knows the future!
