Who lasts longer: Shotty or Dak?

I made a post that pertained to this in another thread but the post got me to thinking about this and I thought it is an idea that is worth discussing on its own merits.

Dak seems to be a coach killer. Who lasts longer as a Cowboy—Shotty or Dak? And why?
I have this weird feeling Schottenheimer will be successful coach.

I think it’s at least POSSIBLE that Kellen Moore ruined Dak. Dak was a very good, risk averse bus driver his rookie year. He made much better decisions with the football THEN as a rookie than he does now.

Kellen Moore’s get greedy idea that he sold Dak on has seemingly permeated a large swath of Dak’s thinking, maybe even beyond just his play.

IMHO the game of football MUST be simplified for Dak because he has become a deer in the headlights. The running game will be a big part of that.

Dak must become more risk averse again, or I don’t think he will ever sniff a SB.
what do you mean taking risks? as in throwing interceptions? too many of them? I know when he feels pressed that he has to carry the offense, he tends to make some throws he shouldn't. those tend to happen the years we have lacked offensive power and balance. he threw 15 one year, but cleaned it up. he shouldn't be expected to carry the offense like Mahomes or Allen. he is not them. but he can manage and for that as you said he needs to run a balanced offense.

we also can't expect to be in shoot out matches the whole time. its not a strategy that's going to work in dallas nor anywhere else. we have to fix the defense.

on Kellen Moore, I was against the hire at the time, because he had all of one year of coaching experience at ANY level. that's not enough. I said it at the time, he is green. genuis or not, he has a learning curve and he is going to make mistakes until he learns. its the way of NFL coaching. they all go through it. it just so happened he sharpened his teeth in Dallas, honed it in SD and did real well in Philly obviously.

Shotty will likely last longer. With Dak’s age/injury history, coupled with the fact that Jerry doesn’t fire coaches early…they probably at least tie.

The only way I see Jerry firing Shotty early is if they really struggle this year (8-9 or worse…which is likely enough with the schedule), and Shedeur Sanders has at least a few exiting moments, and another Browns QB also plays well enough where it makes Sanders trade bait. I could see JJ hiring Prime then and trading for Sanders. Prime will probably be more likely to take the job to help his son improve his image than he was a few months back when he didn’t think he needed to.

But that scenario is a long shot…so I say Shotty lasts longer than Dak…

At this point they are practically connected at the hip.

Dak's career will end during this contract unless he and the Cowboys get the ring.

Schottenheimer's tenure pretty much depends on whether Dak succeeds.

if this is the year of a steep decline for Dak then Milton would have to come in and be a miracle Saviour for the Cowboys to get to the playoffs much less a deep contender.

It's unfair to be sure, but many HCs have been fired after a poor season in which the starting QB was injured early or was flat out terrible.

If Dak is bad then Schotty is gone barring some miracle event.

I do believe it's quite possible that both of them might leave this team simultaneously . . . :muttley:

Shotty

Dak's old and used up in football years. If the players like Schotty (which so far seems pretty evident) he may last longer. I'll be surprised if Dak makes it through a full season again. The wheels are literally falling off that dude.

I think the coach. The Jones boys are slow to make coaching changes. The new coach probably has at least three years unless the team tanks and the wheels fall off.

Prescott is an oft injured QB and I suspect the next injury will bring the curtain down on his career. I do not think he has three years left in him.

No one knows for sure but my money is on the coach.
