there are only _____ current starting FS in the league who were drafted in the first round

1. Ed Reed - Balt.
2. Ko Simpson - Buff.
3. Jason Allen - Miami
4. Michael Huff - Oak *listed as SS, thought he was an FS
5. Sean Taylor - Wash

Of these, only Ed Reed is a consistent game changing type player, at this point at least. I think it just goes to show that starter capable free safeties can be had in the later rounds. Guys like Will Demps and Marlon McCree are both starters and were both undrafted.

Most of the starting FS were from the 2nd round.

The point is, I don't think we need to go Reggie Nelson in the first round. Its certainly not a guarantee that a first round pick will be succesful, especially not immediately.

There are only two positions on this team that don't have firmly entrenched starters: FS and (arguably if we get rid of Rivera as seems to be the consensus) RG.

The argument you just made about FS could also be made about RG. And every other position for that matter.

We take the BPA, which can very easily be a FS.

There are a few positions where you DO NOT draft high ... FB, K, P, and FS.

While all these positions are important, the high draft spots are reserved for high impact players.

FS is not a high impact position. A FA and/or a more experienced Pat Watkins will be fine.

Where do you get FS on that list? You just made that up.

FS get drafted in the first round every year.

And if you are telling me that Ed Reed is not an impact player, than you need to go sell crazy somewhere else.

Remember: your personal opinion does not equal accepted fact. And it is far from an accepted fact that 'you DO NOT DRAFT FS high."

I didn't make it up. It's a fact of life.

You love to bring up Ed Reed as an example, but he's a once in a lifetime player.

The bottom line is, FS is NOT a high draft position. We've won Super Bowls with UFA's, cast-offs, and low round draft picks at FS.

If the talent is worth the pick, I've got no problem taking a safety high in the draft.

I don't expect that this season though. If what you want is talent and potential, Pat Watkins offers both.

I expect Dallas to finally go sign a veteran FS who knows the ropes. I think they will feel more comfortable with some experience back there, and it should allow a guy like Roy Williams to be able to roam around a little more with less responsibility.

I don't think Jason Allen started last year.

I agree completely. Get an impact player in the first round. Your safeties look better with a good pass rush.

The problem in Dallas is that the SS and the ILBs have coverage issues as well so things look even worse.

Get Wendling later and forget about it.
