Would teams be willing to trade a number 1 pick for Carpenter? Dallas could really use an extra number 1 to pick up a good Olineman in the draft.

no one would come close to giving up a first rounder for carp. I could see teams offering us for Crayton, Williams, Jones, Barber, Romo, Ware, and a few other young players...which are trades Dallas does not want to make.

I would trade Ellis. I know that his been productive this year. Therefore I believe that we can get a pretty pick for him.

He would also be valuable within both 3-4 and 4-3 schemes. I think we can get a pretty draft selection for him.

We have such good linebackers that are waiting in the wings. Linebackers such as Burnett and Hoyte should be used rather than just sitting on the butts on the bench.

Hoyte is no longer a linebacker. He said last week he hasn't been to linebacker meetings in multiple weeks.

Can Hoyte still hit? If he can he would still be able to play linebacker.

Its like being able to ride a bike. Once you know how to ride, you won't ever forget it.

You'd never get a first rounder for Crayton...I'd trade him for any first day pick.

Omigod, a team wouldn't even use a #1 for Carpenter in the draft....

Oh crap, wait we already did. Who's bright idea was that? I swear that was just brilliance, using our #1 for the little "sidekick" of the true #1, Hawk. He sure the hell ain't Trigger, I'll tell ya that.

With all the oline worries we're still having and we draft a defensive guy who still hasn't played come midseason. What an utter waste of a pick. This guy better be being held back like Romo was and just blast on to the scene.

True enough, but Carp might not be the flop a lot of folks think.

I'm not saying he was deactivated week to week as a rookie (I'd have to check to see if he ever was) but James Farrior, who Bill chose at either the 7 or 8 pick in NY, and was lauded as a much greater stud backer, took three years to be integrated fully into the lineup. He was 'platooned' for years, until he 'got it'.

I hope that doesn't happen here..and Carpenter not even suiting up is troublesome, but Bill is both more patient (timewise) and less forgiving of mistakes with backers...add Carp's 'position change' to the equation and Greg's transition, and it's easy to see Bill ditzing around with Carp as he did Farrior, for awhile.

Wow. Just wow. Did you forget that if we had traded down at least 2 other teams probably would have drafted him within the next few picks after we did? Did you forget our LB circumstances at the time of the draft? Did you forget there wasn't one OL in the draft that BP could start for us? Did you you forget about the 3 year rule for judging draft picks?

Back to the original question, the answer is many, many players. That doesn't mean we should or will.

I think Carp will turn out to be a better pro than Hawk. Part gut feeling and part I'm just not sold on Hawk.

Give Carp a year to learn the playbook and to get stronger. We are not not in dire need at LB so no need to rush him at this point. Worked for James, will work for Carp (tho I understand there's more pressure on Carp being a first rounder).

You may get a second or third for Carpenter. But in no way am I giving up on him after a half a season.

In my opinion no player is untradeable for the right price. The Walker trade proved that to me. For the right deal any player can get traded.

One thing on trades. Our castoff LBs have played well in Nawlins. I am sure other teams paid attention to that.

Oh, and the best LB in the 2007 Draft is Paul Posluzny of Penn State. "LB University" has once again come through. Jack Lambert of all people, a PSU Alum, calls Posluzny the best the Nittany Lions have ever produced.

High praise indeed.

that is all when and fine if the backer was a 2nd day pick...but any linebacker that is taken in the first had better be...LT ish or McGinest ish...

question: name a LBer worthy of a first round pick...

I bet it is somebody that can see the field...

but if the best you are gonna get is okay after 3-4 year wait..well than that sucks

Ellis could be trade bait or just released(hope not)....The cowboys have stocked up on LB's and could be grooming them to replace up coming departures...ie Eliis, Singleton...Carpenter is being mentored. Just because he is not getting playing time doesnt mean that Parcels and the Cowboys are not setting him up for success later for later years....nutin wrong home grown superstars...Manny Lawson and AJ Hawk are not instant superstars...time will tell....
