Who plays MLB? Carter or Lee?

What say you?

They both seem to have the required football IQ and instincts to play in the middle, along with with the required athleticism.

Carter played under Butch Davis, where his read and react responsibilities were similar to what Kiffin will ask of him at MLB, but with more responsibility.

Lee will play MLB. Carter will play the Will.

I say this as well.

The Mike really should be good at dropping straight back to cover the center/deep hole in the coverage. Lee is brilliant at that.
He could also end up with > 100 tackles.

They both could play either position though.

Yeah Lee at Mike,Carter at Will. Not even a discussion. Two reasons for me, one, Lee has a greater IQ and instincts than the middle linebacker position requires. And two, Carter fits best not at Mike, but at Will, because of his speed and athleticism.

But who will play Sam...Now that is the question

Considering neither have proven to stay healthy, I imagine we'll see both.

But in a perfect world, Lee will be in the middle for sure.

They both played ILB in a 3-4, so one of them has to move outside.

Based on what? Carter took over defensive play calling when Lee went down and the defense didn't miss a beat.

If you want better run defense and less playmaking you put Lee and MLB and Carter at the Will.

If you want more playmaking ability and better deep coverage you put Carter at the Mike and Lee at the Will.

I think both will learn both spots (Lee probably already has) anyways.

My bigger concern is that next year Lee is a FA and do we sign him and if we do how is that contract structured to protect us against his injury history.

Neither of them called plays, they just wore the radio helmet. Spencer wore it when they both went down.

While in a base 4-3 I expect Lee to play Mike backer. In the 4-3 under front that Kiffin likes to run, there are essentially two middle line backers like a 3-4. The defensive line is reduced in an under front, so the Will backer moves inside.

Justin Durant. He was a solid starter in Detroit for a couple years, so I'd expect he'd be #1 on the depth chart for the SAM here.
