Our pass rush was lacking already and not the Colts are coming to town.

With Ellis out, who will take over for him? Carpenter? He is very green, I don't know if he can play coverage or even if he has the moves to pass rush in the NFL yet. Parcells wasn't really playing him much at all for a reason. Burnett I don't think has the coverage skills, but seems to be a good pass rusher. Hatcher and Coleman are to large to play that position. The only other person I think that could do it if Carpenter doesn't make it is Junior Glymph. He is 270lbs, everyone else except Carpenter is a little small to play outside linebacker. They would get run over by offensive linemen at only 250lbs.

Anyone have any thoughts on the subject? It doesn't seem like there is much discussion about it (or I'm just missing it)

A lot of people are calling Carp a bust, but he hasn't sniffed the field because Ellis has played so well. Also, we don't really know how well he's doing in practice. Will there be a drop off now that Ellis is done for the season? Probably. But, I don't think Carp isn't ready. He's playing a position he knows and he's sat for many weeks learning and getting ready. Now, it's just time for him to step up.

Here is hoping that Ellis spends his time helping coach these guys. I think he could do wonders for Ware with the extra time. This basically means Ware will be double teamed every play now with Ellis gone.

Oh yeah, on that note. Those reviewing the game. Was it just me being a homer or were they holding Ellis damn near all the time yet they never called holding? Then, I got really upset when they called that questionable holding call on Kosier. They can make out questionable calls, but blatent holding on Ellis (Ellis was dragging him behind him) and there is no call. (several times!!)

I thought I saw that as well.

Who says 250 lbs is too small to play OLB? Granted it's not ideal for the downs when lined up in a 3 point stance on the line, but it is a much better size for an all around, all purpose LB.

I certainly understand concern about replacing Ellis' pass rushing skills, but worrying about coverage ability doesn't makes sense - that was clearly Ellis' weakness.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Carpenter or Burnett getting the bulk of the playing time with Glymph or Hatcher coming in on clear pass rushing downs.
