Who was the catalyst regarding the Morris signing?

A solid RB. Looks like a RB we can lean on to take some carries.

Oops. Sorry about that. What I intended to ask was, who was the driving force behind acquiring Morris? It was a solid move.

The notion by this team to tale Zeke out and counter the momentum befuddles me.

Morris is a nice RB. But there is a huge difference between Morris and Zeke.

Agreed. Once McFadden is ready to return I predict that he and Morris will be fighting for RB2. I also think McFadden will run away with the job. Nothing against Morris, McFadden is just better between the two in my opinion.

I think McFadden would be a better complimentary back then Morris. McFadden is a 3 down back where Morris clearly isn't. McFadden also can do similar things to EE which includes pass protection and pass catching.

"Morris is considered a perfect scheme fit for the zone blocking scheme that Dallas prefers although the Dallas’ offensive line showed they can master any scheme really. Morris sees the hole and hits it with great vision and balance. He’s also got that home run mentality as Cowboys fans are all too aware of."

That first post was pretty much a text based breathalyzer.

Anyway, I think Morris is a great fit for the offense, I think the issue is that he's just not getting enough carries to get into any kind of groove. They had said they were going to give him every third series or so, but that's not happening. He's getting a couple of carries per game.

I feel like Morris is a better runner than McFadden, he's slippery and he'll find yards in the muck. But he's not as good in pass protection or receiving. I think that, absent Zeke, our best rotation would probably be Morris for 1st and 2nd down and McFadden on 3rd down. McFadden could play all 3 downs, I just feel like Morris would be better at slipping through for those 5 and 6 yard gains.

But honestly, without Zeke this whole offense would look different. Teams would shift their focus to the pass, because while Morris and McFadden can have success, they aren't keeping DCs up at night. Zeke is.

Perhaps the thread title should be modified, I started looking around for news about a trade involving Morris Claiborne or Alfred Morris... lol.

The plan was always to draft a strong RB but signing Morris was a low risk high reward signing to pair with DMC...... WAS let him walk after failing to use him correctly for the last 2 years

Timing of this thread is suspect as well last Sunday against the Eagles he ran for 3 carries 6 yards. Week before that against Packers 3 carries 2 yards.

For the year he's been average as a backup I'd say.

36 attempts 136 yards 3.8 average 2 TDs. Not terrible, but not lightning the world on fire either.

Yeah. It's called a groove.

And NO, I'm not saying Morris is better he just isn't afforded the time to establish his run style.

I'm sure at the time they considered him they wanted a veteran back that has succeeded in a ZBS and would be a cheap low risk/good reward in case he had to carry the load.

Maybe back then they were leaning towards possibly a Goff/Wentz selection or weighing the options among Zeke/Bosa/Ramsey since one or two would fall to them.

Thats exactly what I think he was a cheap, young veteran with past success for insurance to pair with McFadden if we happen to get Wentz (before the Philly trade up), Bosa/Ramsey if thats who our options were when our pick came up in the draft.
