Who Watched Larry Allen in 2006?

Who watched enough of Larry Allen's play during this past year to assess his performance?

We all know he left Dallas because his recent spotty play here no longer justified his big cap cost. Did he turn it around and recapture some of the past glory? Did they scheme to protect against players going against him in space? Did he continue to fall prey to periodic whiffs?

No regrets really. Just curious.

Larry missed 5 games last season. I think he had his moments last year when he was in the lineup but given what Dallas would have had to pay to keep him I think Dallas made the right choice to let him go.

I don't disagree. The problem had become his growing inability to get his hands on the opponent and I just wondered if he had more success with that in SF last year.

San Fran didn't ask Allen to do what we asked him to do here in Dallas. Never asked him to get to the second and third level much. He played well, I thought, but it was not the same scheme. If he had stayed here in Dallas, I expect we would have seen pretty much the same things with more games missed. Still a good player but not a guy who is going to track down the LB and get a block in the open field.

Larry Allen is still better than majority of the guards in the NFL right now. I do like Bigg Davis though...

Larry was decent last year in SF -- his play didn't warrant a pro bowl spot but you get those on reputation when you are going to the HoF. He did show more last year than he did in Dallas over the past few seasons.

Regardless, he's old and slow and it is always better to cut a guy a year or two too early than to cut him a few years too late.

On the nosey.......all a de/dt has to do is put a move on LA and he has a free pass to the qb.

LA was awesome in his prime but those days are long gone.

Lets just say when Allen was playing, Frank Gore had even better numbers. Though Gore had good numbers when Allen wasn't playing also. They just weren't as good.

We probably asked him to do the things he used to do and he couldn't. In SF system, maybe he able to satisfy their needs & change of scenario could have helped him. He's playing in California where I believe he always wanted to be. Change of scenario sometimes helps a lot of players.

Frankly I thought Kosier played better then I expected but then I had low expectations when we signed him given our poor OL recent signings. I think this year in his 2nd year with us he could surprise us all by playing even better. On other hand if McQuistan can beat him out (even if McQuistan at this point might also be Adams primary backup), Kosier signing also gives us a very versitile player who can play elsewhere on the OL--just like we want. Looking forward to TC to see how our young players perform.

He was pretty good last year. Like others have said he wasn't the old Larry Allen but he still played well and is still an above average NFL guard. I miss having him here but at the same time I realize it was the right move.

His replacement here Kosiar played well too. I'd that Kosiar did a decent job filling in for LA. Kosiar definetly wasn't great but he was good enough that we don't really have to worry about the left guard position for now.

I just wish Rivera wouldn't have hurt his back a couple of years ago, he was really good until then and would have done a great job here too IMO. Oh well those things happen I guess.

Zone-blocking just wasn't for Larry. He needs to move forward, and be given a man to dominate, and he'll do it. Heck, he can probably ontinue to do that for 4 years. He was still inept in the same ways in San Francisco as he was in Dallas, he just got to do more of what he is great at - maul the guy in front of him.

We paid Henry and Rivera more than we would have paid Allen.
