Who wears #61?

Watching the video of the building collapse I was wondering who #61 is since I didn't recognize him. No one wearing #61 is listed on the DC site nor at NFL.com.

Any ideas on who this is? I would guess that he is one of the undrafted FAs we signed.

And no, it isn't Nate Newton.

I think it's the guy who was hugging a post. Probably not a bad idea on his part.

Yeah it was 61 hugging a post and so was one of the staff members. 61 looked scared as hell. I'm glad the players are OK, but what an experience to have so early in your career.

I believe that is Islander. I saw a report that mentioned him hugging the post. Another thing I find interesting is that the suite Jerry built to entertain sponsors, the one many of us gave him greif for building, is probably what saved alot of lives. It is more solid and did not collapse. I heard some players say they were able to retreat underneath and I think that may be the post Islander was hugging.

I don't mean to be overly sensitive, but anyone who is throwing around name calling in the wake of how a guy reacted in that situation is uncalled for.

He played a West Virginia and I hear he did the same thing everytime they won a big game and the fans rioted and burned sofa's in the street.

Thanks, that helps.

Watching him and the other players, I felt like they were all scared and he did what he had been told to do in those circumstances, hold on to something. No one knew what was going on or how bad it was going to get so I don't know that I would have done anything differently in that same circumstance.

A lot of things worked together to limit the number of people that COULD have been seriously hurt: That structure you mentioned, the fact that it was a rookie mini-camp so the whole team wasn't there which also meant that there was probably fewer media folks there as well.

I was just curious who it was since I saw him in the video but couldn't find that number listed anywhere.

Well, doofus is pretty tame "name calling", and it really wasn't real bright, taking off his helmet when things were crashing down from the ceiling... you'd think that his instinct for self-preservation would have told him to keep his hard hat on... LOL...

there's not much that can make a 320lb. man hug a post

When I lived in L.A. I worked for a software company and we had a guy from the UK working there for a while. He was a big, muscular guy who had played a lot of rugby and bragged about how much tougher rugby players are than American football players since they don't wear pads and a helmet.

Well, we had a little earthquake, just a bit of trembling, but this guy screamed like a woman and dove under his desk (like everyone is taught to do in school). All the locals were wondering why he was freaking out like that before we realized that there was a little earthquake going on.

We never let him live it down and would shake the table at lunch and ask, "Is that an earthquake" and watch his eyes get big before he figured out we were pulling his leg.

The point is that when you are faced with something that you are not used to it can really freak you out, regardless of how big you are. This guy was about my size but more muscular (I'm 6'3" and was about 230 at the time).

What ARE you talking about?? He wasn't "hugging the post", he was CLEARLY holding the rest of the structure up...

The guy's a freakin' hero, and you're holding him up for public ridicule...

Maybe his helmet was already off. Sometimes guys hold their helmet in their hand when they're not on the field. When all hell broke loose, he probably didn't realize he was holding his helmet, or even if he did, putting it on or not was probably the furthest thing from his mind.

I guess it was Ryan Gibbons who was the most helpful in the video. He was involved in helping the men on the scaffolding and, I believe, he lifted up and looked under the tarp before leaving the building.
