This may be bad timing, and no - I don't have an axe to grind on Garrett.

I don't know how long Garrett will stay.

Fact is, every Cowboy's coach has been fired eventually except Johnson and Parcells.

So does anyone want to speculate who the next coach will be and why?

No offense, but I see no point. I think Garrett will get an extension and be here for quite some time.

I for one find that to be a scarier thought then Garrett getting extension which is why I hope he really does well this season.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Hard to tell.

Jones' fickle coaching machinations depend on his mood. I think if he ends up firing Garrett, he might go crazy. Well, more crazy.

In a strange way, I really hope Garrett gets it. He has the best chance of anyone to succeed in Jones' special system.

A real coach to come in here who has Jones' respect, who he would back down from and "walk on eggshells" is about the only other viable option.

So if you made me guess, it is Holmgren. Not optimal. But we have his QB. Might make the job more attractive.

Yep I agree. I hope he makes it even though the learning curve has been on our nickel. I just don't think you can dismiss the culture change and direction the organization seems to be attaining. Managing the salary cap better and trusting the personnel department are two examples.

Problem is I'm not sure our record this year will reflect the changes but I do think next year it will. Let's just hope we can stay healthy and get some breaks and see what happens.

It will be Garrett. I know the tangible results suggest otherwise, but Garrett hasn't lost the locker room (like Greg Schiano did in Tampa Bay). Since 2010, Garrett has helped transform this roster by getting younger at almost every key area; getting rid of guys like Flozell Adams, Andre Gurode, Kyle Kosier, Marion Barber, Bradie James, Keith Brooking, Terence Newman, and recently DeMarcus Ware and Miles Austin. The Cowboys will be better for it in the long run.

And while NOT comparing Garrett to Tom Landry, recall Landry opened his coaching career with an 18-46-1 record from 1960-64. Imagine if forums like this were around then....

Guss Malzahn will be the next great NFL coach....get em Jerry...

That may not be far off. With the Arkansas roots, they almost have to know each other. I'd keep an eye on him or Briles.

If he'd done it this year, I think we'd have Zimmer and Norv, which would be a big improvement.

Sadly, though, I expect Jerry to keep Garrett barring absolute catastrophe. He's comfortable.

That's a trap. Make JJ justify his position; he had to when he needed a new stadium. Make him justify the time slot, recognition, viewer stats, etc. The DFW media coddles him but truly feel he would sense the pressure to improve his HC if the team was in the NE. Even Snyder knows he has to rotate. Kelly and Coughlin. He has no fire under his performance in the atmosphere he has created and has plenty of enablers that seem to dismiss the HC as an important position to improve on (not you specifically of course). JJ is a money man and understands when his brand needs to be justified. He doesn't feel that right now and even flaunts it at times (the show comments).

I guess you are too young or just too uninformed to see the difference from a expansion team that did not even get a draft its first year as for Red Ball taking over a team one year removed from a Division title with a Franchise QB in place.

Garrett is here for the foreseeable future

God help us

Makes me sick to my stomach to think we be stuck with him. I hope he proves me wrong, I will gladly eat a huge helping of crow, but I have not seen anything to make me believe he will.

Same here. I'm looking for anything that can show me that he's going to be a good HC.

I believe that's the route he'd go. He would have tried two puppets after Parcells. The next coach will be one with more authority, IMO. More skins on the wall too. A young first time head coach would never work here under these insane circumstances. So you'd never see a Chip Kelly type hire in Dallas, but bringing back a Holmgren or Gruden is a real possibility.

What coach even with skins on the wall is gonna be successful with this lunatic owner?

That's the entire issue, I don't think we'll get a coach with skins on the wall because of the meddlesome owner. That's why I'm all for riding it out with Garrett,.
