...I'm not trying to stir the pot, but if you've followed Parcells career at all, you better perk up your ears and pay attention when whispers start circulating that he is "contemplating" his future.
I, for one, want him to stay. He's done a very good job of single-handedly restoring credibility to our team. But, and that's a big "but", he's definitely a short term coach now whether we like it or not. It may not be this year, but he obviously will not stay much longer.
So, the question is...who is next in line?
My gut says it will be Zimmer, even though that is not who I want. I do believe Jerry will want a big-name HC, but Zimmer has been with Jerry for so long that he may feel he owes it to Zimmer to give him his shot.
My choice would be Weis, as the transition would be seamless to "Tuna Jr.", but Weis isn't going anywhere, so mark him off my list.
Jimmy would be great, but forget it, he isn't leaving the Keys.
I've been thinking recently of Pete Carroll. I was never a fan of his, but you have to give him credit for resurrecting a program that was dead in the water and is now THE most dominant program of perhaps the last 40-50 years. That is something that gets your attention.
I recently read a piece on Carroll and I think he will be a much better HC the next time in the NFL, because he has grown so much as a coach. He mentioned reading about John Wooden who didn't win a championship until his 17th season coaching and how Wooden attributed his success to finally establishing a philosophy for winning and sticking to that philosophy. Carroll says he's done the same thing and that he simply is a much better coach than he was before because he knows what he's doing and he is sticking to his philosophy.
Interestingly, in 1997 it was Carroll who succeeded Parcells in NE and Bledsoe was his QB. Wonder if lightening could strike twice?
What do you think?
