Who would you hate at 12?

Once Jeanty goes off the board I'll be indifferent on who they take.
I no longer obsess over draft picks anymore.

Could any of these players provide the impact Zeke did in 2016? Only maybe Jeanty. It's not going to be any of these "more valuable" WRs, LBs or, dare I say, CBs.

How "valuable" was Barkley this year? How about Henry? Would you trade that for a cornerback? If you would you are a colossal moron.
Drafting Zeke was a mistake. HUGE mistake. They should have drafted Ramsey then Henry in the 2nd.

It’s not even hindsight in that scenario…Ramsey was unanimously ranked as a higher player and he played a money position. It should’ve been the easiest decision ever…and they blew it.

Hindsight is 20-20.
The only problem taking Zeke over Ramsey is how fast he declined. His first 3 seasons he was on a Hall of Fame trajectory.

I am not crazy about the OLmen in this draft, except Membou.

I am not in love with the edge guys either, other than Carter.

For the first time in a long time I am kind of hoping to trade down about 5 spots to pick up more draft picks later. I just don't know that anyone else would want to move up.

I’d love to see us trade down just don’t think a team will be looking to move up to our spot.

Any corner. Regardless of Diggs injury, we have two really good ones back there with he and Bland when healthy. Our “GM” McClay loves him some DB’s.

It’s Jeanty or bust for me. That doesn’t happen trade back!

No RB at 12

I would hate a reach in round one based on need. Let me define “a reach”. It’s drafting a guy way earlier than his talent because you have a roster need at that position. That would be a disaster.

The reason that would be a disaster is this team has multiple roster holes and the biggest mistake you can make in that situation is say “We need a RB (or any other position) and here’s one that’s available”.

The reason the Cowboys have Micah Parsons and Cedee Lamb is because the team followed their draft board not need. When we drafted Parsons, we needed a Corner. But we wisely drafted Parsons instead. When we drafted Cedee, we also weren’t shopping for a WR but when he fell to us we drafted him because he was ranked high on our board.

Both ended up being great picks because we didn’t “reach” for a position we wanted to fill.

If on draft night we draft the best player available, it would be better than drafting a guy just because we need that position. Rounds 2-7 you can draft more by need.

Spot on - if we were picking bottom of the first it’d be a little different but we have holes everywhere.

I think one thing people overlook is how much a top 10 (or top 12 pick in this case) can set your franchise up the next 10-15 years. Taking any position that has a 6-8 year shelf life is the biggest reason not to go RB at 12. But this is what should be looked at in Zeke’s draft: every lineman within 10 picks on either side of the ball taken after pick 4 in 2016

6th Overall, Ronnie Stanley - 1st Team All-Pro, 104 starts and just signed to continue to be the Ravens’ franchise LT for the bulk of Lamar’s prime

7th Overall, Deforest Buckner - 5 seasons he was either a pro bowler or an All-Pro, 68 sacks at the DT position in 9 years.

8th Overall, Jack Conklin - 2 time 1st Team All-Pro RT, 106 starts.

12th Overall, Sheldon Rankins - NT who won’t make waves, but 73 career starts, and started every game in 2024 before getting injured. Still going strong at 31.

13th Overall Laremy Tunsil - 5 pro bowls at LT, only started less than 14 games once in 9 years, franchise cornerstone

Every single one of these guys (including the next 3 lineman after that) are still in the league, still every day starters and look to be for many years to come. This is invaluable. Imagine any of these guys in Dallas right now, the massive hole they would fill. Don’t chance it, don’t get cute, and above all don’t draft based on 2024 needs. Mistake picks:

Ashton Jeanty

Omarion Hampton

Tyler Warren

Malaki Starks

CB and WR aren’t as egregious. Though not as preferable as lineman, if you really like a guy then they can have a big impact now and into the future.

Drafting Jeanty, Hampton or Warren wouldn't be getting cute. They are solid prospects that would greatly improve this team. They will at least give you solid starters on their first contracts. If not just move on.

Our draft prowess is not as advertised. It's been lacking. No consistency. Not in a good way. We need to draft based on best available player on the board, regardless of need, position. It's very hard to do because the temptation is to fall in love with a name, based on need. We can't afford to do that. We did this with Guyton. Paid a price for it. We still need a LT. Guyton to me is a slightly better Terrance Steele. Put him at RT .

Is that all the 12th pick is worth? If you can’t get more than that, then trade down and run a RB committe that will cover the majority of Jeanty’s production at a fraction of the draft cost
