My thoughts is Hatcher.

Completely more athletic than Spears and a way better pass-rusher.

I think Hatcher has tremedous upside, Spears had the pedigree.

Hatcher shows more burst and fire, but in limited time.

Can he hold up right now as a starter like Spears?

Spears holds up against the run very well, just no pass rush.

Spears is a better run stopper, Hatcher is a better pass rusher.

they have different roles on the defense, very hard to compare them imo.

Your thoughts is huh?

Hatcher mostly comes in on the nickel with pretty much the sole assignment of rushing the passer.

Spears anchors the 3-4 with the primary responsibility of occupying O-lineman and stopping the run.

It stands to reason that Hatcher might "appear" to be the better pass rusher but I doubt that's the case.

Stick Hatcher in there in the 3-4 on first and second down and I'm sure the story would look quite different.

Have Hatcher played in the 3-4 in our Defense. I know he's big enough. He's like 6-6 295. He's big just tone with it.

We were tickled pink with Spears and Canty when we got them, because the Cowboys were seriously lacking in size (which meant they couldn't defend the run worth squat). This was back in the time when "Ellis must GO!" and "Ellis is too small for the 3-4". Now it's "Canty and Spears must GO!" and "Oh god our defense is ruined without Ellis".

Funny how that happens.

Just my 2 cents, but we need to start thinking in terms of a rotation that includes the 2 outside LBs and the 3 lineman. We're thin across the "front 5" and getting a couple more quality bodies wouldn't hurt. If, for example, we get a solid NT backup behind Ferguson, one who can push the pocket, then
Raitliff, who has some pass rush skills, can use those on the outside as
opposed to backup NT.

David.

Hatcher gets to play in the situations that fit his skills best. Pretty much he only has to worry about getting to the QB - he's done that a bit.

Spears has a more complex role playing in the base where it is run first.

So Hatcher would have to suck pretty badly to not appear the better pass rusher.

I like Canty better than Spears and Hatcher. Canty is starting to come into his own, he's getting better at his pass-rush I must say, he was in Vick's face about to sack him but he cause enough pressure for Demarcus Ware to get the interception.

But I believe right now going into the playoffs we going to need to bring some serious pressure, so in saying that I also believe we should get Montavious Stanley ready, cause I believe from looking at him for two years in college he could be an impact. He needs some playing time.

Hatcher is the best pass rusher with Spears being a better pass rusher than Canty.(Canty wasn't blocked on the Ware interception) Spears and Canty are better run stoppers than Hatcher though and that is why he is only playing nickel. The coaches hope that Hatcher will develop into a better run stopper and also hope that the other two will develop into better pass rushers. Spears has the tools to be a decent pass rusher but doesn't shed blockers well. Canty plays too high.

Hatcher is a good run stoper too.

I think Hatcher is better than Spears. I even think Jay Ratliff better than Spears right about now. Spears really needs to step up. He's a first round draft choice. Why didn't the Cowboys trade up to the San Deigo Chargers pick to get Merriman too. Merriman and Ware?:bang2: :bang2: :bang2: :bang2: :bang2: :bang2: :bang2: :bang2: :bang2: :bang2: :bang2: :bang2: :bang2: :bang2:

They both play the same position in the 3-4 defense, so comparing them is not that hard. Spears has been playing a level below his pay grade. I expect more than a run stopper from a number one pick. I think Coleman could do that. I expect a difference maker. Spears has hardly been that. He has been disappointing so far.

Hatcher is a third round pick in his rookie year. I'm pleased with his development thus far. He could turn into a difference maker.

The thing that concerns me about Spears is that in comments he's made in the past he makes it sound like he feels he really has no obligation at all to get to the passer.

That would be fine if the only plays the opposing team ever called when he's in the game were running plays.

They both play the same in the 3-4, but how often is Hatcher actually there. I don't know specifically, but i would think the majority of his plays come in nickel situations where he rushes the passer and doesnt have to worry about the run while spears is in the base defense looking to stop the run as his first priority,.

I am sure Parcells has not thought of that yet.
Yeah, a rotation is a novel concept. We should try it.;)

Hatcher showed potential in her Lois and Clark days, but now that Spears has gotten rid of K-Fed I feel like she's ready for a return to prominence..

um.. what's that??.. oh.. oops.. wrong forum.. Damnit!!

But no.. I like Hatcher in the nickle opposite Ware and Spears on run downs..
