Hamlin has provided leadership in our secondary. But I have always felt that he is really more of a SS than FS. He certainly has proven his worth because our own Roy can't take on the leadership role which many have expected. However, he is still not a great cover man as a FS.

Now, on to Henery.
The man has ball skills when healthy. He may not have the athletic ability of Newman but he would pick off more balls then Newman if he can play a full season. He maybe toward the end of his CB career, but personally I think he's got several good yrs as a FS and a darn good one at it. Henry will probably pick off more passes than Hamlin but may not offer as great of run support.

Now....who's worth more $$ if we are talking about FS for the next 4 yrs? I like Henry...because of turnover factor.

Hamlin, and it is no contest. Henry is a good player, but he's nearly incapable of staying healthy for any length of time. He's 31 compared to Hamlin's 27.

I'd like to see Hamlin at SS next year, either Watkins or Brown step up to FS, and Henry manning the 3rd or 4th CB spot...which is more of a testament to our CB depth than it is a knock on Henry.

Henry can't stay healthy at cb so there is no way he can stay healthy at FS when he'll have to make more tackles.

If I had to guess, Henry might be on the trading block if Jones is re-instated.

what do you think we'd be lookinf for in return?

Doubt Henry will bring us much in a trade; he's a good CB when he's healthy, but that's the rub. Besides just because Pacman someday will be reinstated & probably eventually return to his highly successful playing style, there's no way I'd bank of him for a very long time--certainly more then a few weeks. No we should keep Henry which also allows more time for our younger CBs to develop. How quickly Jenkins, Scandrick & Ball develop will probably influence if Henry plays out his contract with us.

Depends on what someone has for sale and what we're shopping for. Veteran WR, backup QB, O-line, draft picks, cap relief.

My guess would be WR, but not if Glenn is healthy at this point. If he is, Draft picks. Any way that they can build the team and not have money sitting on the bench.

It's a CB starved NFL though. They and QBs will always have value.

Hamlin is a FS....and a very good one, better than he'd be a SS at his size.
Henry is not all that tough or good at tackling...not bad, but he's not even in Hamlin's neighborhood when it comes to being physical and hitting...imo.

I keep them both and cut Roy Williams loose next year. I think the strong safety position isn't the quasi-linebacker position it used to be when the league was more run oriented. Now, the league is a passing league, and you're seeing more strong safeties who are smaller and more mobile (Kerry Rhodes, Bob Sanders, Michael Huff, and Troy Polamalu, among others, play the position at 210 or less). Hamlin could easily work up to 215 pounds (he played at 206 last year) without losing speed, and he's an excellent hitter and tackler and a team leader. As you pointed out, Henry has excellent ball skills and good size, and is better in coverage than Hamlin, so assuming that Mike Jenkins is the real deal and can start in 2009, I'm much more excited about having four excellent coverage guys than three and what amounts to a fifth linebacker. Don't get me wrong, I think Williams is a good player, but I think his game isn't what the Cowboys need anymore. The Boys' front seven is pretty big and athletic, so I don't think a big run-support safety is as much of a priority as it might have been in the 4-3.

given what CBs like Jacques Reeves got on the FA market, I'd say a solid #2 guy like Henry would garner a bunch of interest, especially since the Cowboys have already paid the big chunk of his contract (his SB). He's going to get like 6-7 mill in salary over the next two years -- that's chicken feed.
