I go to one game a year, and this is the game I'm going to. Grew up in Texas but moved to dreaded South Florida 20 years ago. Even though I grew up near Dallas (Amarillo) I'm looking for some recommendations for the two things I can't get here. 1. A good BBQ place and 2. Tex Mex. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Also, what kind of tail gating expectations should I have? Have not been to Texas Stadium since 1972.

By the way, I am taking my Eagles friend to the game. Gotta show him the real Texas. This is going to be fun.

1.sonny bryan's on inwood, get there early they close when they run out of food. Best BBQ in dallas. Don't go to a fancy one though, only the one on inwood across from the hospital and next to the salvation army is worth it. Oh and the chopped beef is what you want. Everything is good but a chopped beef sandwich is tops.

2. I can't name the places but the hole in the wall places are much better than any of the chains. Best place for that is off knox/henderson any one of those hole in the wall taqerias and resturants are great. Tia's on lemmon aint bad but its kinda trendy. Ojeda's is a dallas tradition for mexican and its pretty good, it gets busy in there though. They are on maple ave. I actually used to like Rosita's down from ojeda's better but I haven't been there in 15 years I bet.

ojeda's website:

very good bbq and atmosphere.

El Fenix and On the Border have great Tex Mex. I personally like El Fenix the best. It's downtown off Walden Walker.

El Fenix?? That really low on totem pole. On the Border is a good recommend.

I would recommend Annemia (sp?), Mi Cocina better than El Fenix.

Best Medium price BBQ I would recommend is http://www.shadyoakbbq.com/. If you want hot looking chicks and decent BBQ "Bone Daddy" would be a recommendation too.

Uhhh... I'd like to hear what you consider far, if Amarillo is "near Dallas".

I thought I misread that.

Its like Hey I live in buffalo right next to Boston.

In West Texas, any place that is within a days drive is relatively close. I had a friend that lived on a ranch in Hartley County, about 100 miles to the nearest grocery store. He loved visiting me, because his mom never bought ice cream because it would way melt before she could get it home, even with coolers. Dallas is the nearest big city, and we would visit a couple times a year. Six flags usually. My sister moved to Plano, and I worked a couple of summers, and lived in Arlington. In Texas, distance is relative. Thanks for all the good advice. I had heard about Sonny Bryans before and think I will try it. Also looking for some good sports bars as well.

Thanks

My thoughts also. About 5 1/2 hour drive.

I will be at the game.

If you want BBQ, it's average to good, but if you like Hooter's girls, try Bone Daddies in Grapevine. Off off Highway 121 to William D. Tate, on the corner of William D. Tate & Mustang Dr.

I think the girls look better than the Hooter's girls.

Go to Texas Station at the Gaylord Texan. It's in Grapevine which is close to Southlake and they have a movie screen size big screen.
