This thread is laughable.
Think injuries were bad? They could've been a lot worse. Look at what happened in NE. We could see a lot worse in '09.
Look at the Cowboys of the early 90s. Young, deep, ultratalented. In just 4 years they went from being the best, youngest team, to has-beens.
Romo's no spring chicken. I'm still high on him, but he'll be 29 next season. It wouldn't be unprecedented for him to finally get it this late in his career, but it is rare. Most QBs have established themselves by his age.
TO is 35. No matter what you think of him, pro or con, he doesn't have much left in the tank.
When Parcells came to Dallas, he said that TEs and safeties take the most punishment and the tough ones don't last as long, ala Bavaro. Look at what Witten absorbed this season. Think he's lasting much past 30 absorbing that kind of pain week in and out? Not gonna happen.
Ware may have had a career season. I think he'll have a long HOF-worthy career, but there's no guarantee that we didn't see his peak year in '08. Same for James. Same for Ratliff.
The point is - though things may be much better next year - there's no guarantee. Life is fleeting, especially in the NFL. And here we had a team with several talented players at or near their primes just flush 2 years down the toilet. Each year is precious, and yet Jerry Jones egomaniacal stubborness continues to handcuff this franchise. Wade Phillips' teams have perpetually struggled in December and January, he's never won a playoff game, and now we're expected to believe this grandfatherly fellow in his mid-60s who's been coaching for 30 years is all of a sudden going to become a different kind of coach.
We'll get 'em next year? Maybe, but history says we probably will not.
