Sure two different positions so its like comparing apples and oranges but still......opinions?

I would have to go with Jerry Rice without a doubt. IMO Rice is one of the top-3 WRs to ever play the game and set the receiving records so far ahead of what they were that it will be a long time before anyone approaches them.

Brady, as great as he is, isn't even the greatest QB of his generation, Peyton Manning is.

I have gone on record many times stating that IMO, Otto Graham is the greatest QB to ever play the game.

Now if you were to ask me who was the greater player, Graham or Rice, I would go with Graham.

Besides, Graham Crackers taste a lot better than those flavorless Rice Crackers. :D (no homo)

I agree. As much as I hated him, Joe Montana was the best QB I have ever seen.

The best player overall I have ever seen was Earl Campbell in his prime.

In fact, here is my all time best team of the players I saw play. late 70s to today

QB Joe Montana
RB Earl Campbell
RB Emmitt Smith
WR Jerry Rice
WR Randy Moss
TE Kellen Winslow
OT Jackie Slater
OT Anthony Munoz
OG Larry Allen
OG John Hannah
C Dwight Stephenson
DE Reggie White
DE Bruce Smith
DT Randy White
DT Dan Hampton
LB Lawrence Taylor
LB Mike Singletary
LB Demarcus Ware
CB Deion Sanders
CB Darrell Green
S Ronnie Lott
S Darren Woodson

That's a pretty damn good team there! I'm older and would include several players from the 50s & 60s but for the era there are only a few guys I would replace if it were my team.

I would replace Dan Hampton with Warren Sapp, and Deion Sanders with Michael Haynes. But that's just me.

Not sure where I would put him but I would have to have Rod Woodson on my team as well. Maybe in place of Green but I'd hate to lose him too.

Nicely done.

Darren was good but man is he overrated by Cowboy fans

You think so? He could hit like a linebacker and cover wide receivers, plus he was a good team leader. Who would pick in his place as safety on your all-time team?

QB is the most important position so I'm sure a lot of people will go Brady for that reason but for my money Jerry Rice is the best player I've ever seen, hands down, at any position. He was just an animal for his position and the way he worked to stay in shape, to be the best, and all that just can't be praised enough.

He remained relatively healthy for his career, redefined the WR position and set records taht aren't likley to be beaten for a long time. At his peak, nobody else was close. Even after his skills began to decline, he was still better than many other players.

The reality is that this is an incredibly subjective point, and many people have given solid, informed opinions about their choice. This debate will always be the starting point for conversations while A) waiting for a delayed plane departure, B) waiting for the doctor, C) shooting the breeze at the bar. THere is no wrong answer, just a whole lot of almost-right ones.

I'm going to play devils advocate here..... I've always felt that Rice was overrated. Maybe its the blind hatred I have for the niners, but hear me out.

Rice was on great football teams his whole career in SF. Great. He had two of the best quarterbacks EVER to play the game. I'm talking both being top 5 qb's in this league in my eyes. He was also on a VERY poor division. He got to play the
Falcons
Rams
Saints
twice a year his whole career, and he those teams were HORRID for his entire career, yet he was on a great team.

Its the reggie bush analogy. He was Awesome at USC. He was surrounded by talent everwhere, but plays in a joke of a division (Pac 10). Every guy on USC's bench would start for any other team in that conferece. What happened when he got to the pro's? He's decent, but not a star.

Its the perfect storm. Superior talent throughout the lineup, playing inferior competition. This is how I feel about Rice.

I'm not going to say Rice wouldn't be a very good wr on any other team, but the GOAT accolades he gets are a bit much for me.

Falcons
Saints
Rams

Twice a year for life. Montana/Young throwing you the ball.

Feel free to blast me.
