Who's Witten lighting up anyway?

All this focus on Roy Williams inadequacy in coverage has made me think. Who's covering Witten? Jason would absolutely smoke anybody who's tried to cover him.

Are the Chat sites of those teams talking about their safeties the same way? I'm thinking, some TE's are just really good.

I'd just wish Roy would make a hit again. I haven't seen one in over two years now.

I was thinking the same thing. Witten had probably the greatest season for any Cowboys' TE & he's certainly a top 3 TE in the NFL. We also need remember that in at least 3 games last year Witten was held in to block/protect Romo; Witten's numbers would have been ever better if Fasano or Curtis were better blockers.

this is a good issue to think about when we talk about TEs getting covered by safeties -- the NFC East is brutal. Our safeties have to face Shockey, Cooley, and LJ Smith twice a year.

Eagles' safeties have it the worst though; Shockey, Witten, and Cooley twice a year.....

I was watching the replay of TO's 4 TD game against Washington on NFLN and Witten caught the ball, and one of the safety's ran in and hit him HARD. It looked the the safety had run his head into a tree, because Witten didn't move.

I cheered like it was gameday.

of course, they have what I believe is the best defensive coordinator in the league. so that kinda helps

They aren't because they don't have a safety that is full of myths.

While every team doesn't have a Witten, many of the teams have TEs that are a handful for safeties. They just have to be able to cover to play in this league. I do believe that the demands on safeties for coverage is greater than ever.

Which is a reason why Roy should be much better at covering tight ends... You get a chance to defend one of the best tight-ends in the league, everyday at practice. A tight-end heads above players like Cooley and Shockey....

Agree our defense should be better prepared against other teams since they play against really good players like Witten & Romo. Heck if I'm a defensive player on our team, I'd rather play anybody then go against our OL & take on Witten, TO, MBIII & Romo. That alone should help our defense move at least into the top 10 even before considering how much they able improve in Wade's 2nd season & with more quality players at CB.

That's the dumbest thing i've ever heard before. By that logic NE and COlts should have the best CB's in the league becasue they have the best WR.

No, it would just mean that playing against the best WRs probably helped their coverage immensely. If they weren't playing against the best, they would probably be worse in coverage than they are now...

I'm sure you have heard the saying that goes to the effect that you only get better when you play against the best... I'm sure I can beat my grand-ma in basketball, but how would that improve my game?

Going against the best doesn't help improve you. Because in the example you gave how would your grandmother get betteR?

LOL...

I'm sure if my grandma was healthy, like Roy is, and she played against me everyday, she would get better. Roy doesn't have the excuse of having bad hips and being 90 years old.

Her problem is physical limitations... Roy doesn't have those... But I'm sure you already knew that, which makes you trying to defend an indefensibly point rather absurd...
