I know it’s not draft related, but this is the only place on the forum to have a rational discussion about football

I want an innovative offensive mind at HC because I think there are plenty of very good D Coordinators available.

The obvious choice is Ben Johnson, but he’s going to have his choice of whatever job he wants and I don’t think Dallas will be near the top of his list.

My top 2 choices after Johnson are Liam Coen and Wes Phillips.

Get away from the big names and retreads and go find the next great coach.

Wes Phillips is interesting, Broaddus mentioned him as a possible oc under Jason Witten as hc

If there weren't the constraints here (Jerry's meddling, he's cheap when it comes to coaching contracts, etc.) I would say Ben Johnson and it wouldn't be close.

Right now, I'd like to see someone like Brian Flores (defensive guru, tough mindset, culture) as HC and Luke McCown as the OC.

Jon Gruden would be interesting. He's an actual offensive guru (just ask Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, etc) and he may have the right temperament to address the culture but also not make Jerry feel "uncomfortable."

I don't think it matters. Jerry is the real coach here.

I like Kellen Moore, because he knows more ball than McCarthy at this point, and he's still agreeable enough to go along with the Jerry program. So he is my realistic best-case pick.

In a perfect world, I would rather have a Vrabel or Flores type of culture coach to clean the Jerry smell out of the building. Flores went toe to toe with another meddlesome owner in Miami, even though he knew it'd cost him his job. That's the kind of guy I really want.

Yeah I don’t listen to Broaddus much for a reason

Jason Witten as HC is ridiculous to start with. And Phillips already has the OC title in Minnesota. Don’t think there’s a scenario where he could/would come to Dallas on a lateral move.

Maybe he was talking about HC, need to watch what he said. Did mention Witten with experience staff under him

I think Coen is a good consideration as well as Monken and Joe Brady.

Really want to see our scheme revamped on offense and the best offensive minds that have proven themselves come as HCs.

Maybe Saleh as DC.

Vrabel as HC feels like a strong possibility that I don't mind but wouldn't pick.

I don’t love Monken as much as most. He’s been around for a while and has never exactly been a hot name until he became the OC of a team with Lamar and Henry.

I would love Vrabel…don’t know if he would choose to work for Jerry unfortunately. He will have other offers that are more appealing than Jerry’s circus.

Ben Johnson and it isn't close

If they want to stay with a pro coach and not go to the college ranks
Flores would be my choice followed by Kellen Moore

If they went college for some reason
I really like Matt Campbell from Iowa State, he always makes the Cyclones competitive with lesser talent.

DC Dennis Allen
OC Mike Shanahan from Indiana

So...does anyone know what kind of attitude Witten has as a Coach.

Spoiler: This is a post asking if there is any similarities between Dan Campbell and Witten.

I get that just because Witten coaches now and was a TE, that this does not mean he would have the success as Campbell...

Campbell, though he has turned me off like Belicheck(cheater, willing to run up the score on people), seems to walk the walk and talk the talk as a football guy. Doesnt get nerdy or complicated in his interviews, uses common words...but you can tell he is 100% in on this team. A lot of other coaches make their post-games sound like its just a job and they explain intricate nuances of the game and it gets long winded....Campbell speaks simply but with conviction.

If Witten has a similar rough, tough way of coaching and is passionate...it might work. I remember a video from training camp way back when and Witten was giving the business to Bobby Carpenter...calling him Barbie and all...and Dan Campbell and Witten remind me of each other based on this one video. Only problem is...Dan seems to approach the game like an outlaw which I think can be infectious to the team, Witten seems a little more reserved than Campbell.

i would take flores or vrabel . but if they get interest elsewhere i don't think working for jerry would be their first choice.

I'm bracing for disappointment. Either MM returns, we get kellen moore, or they promote zimmer etc.

I think I've found my choice. Jeff Zgonnia our dline coach. He checks all the boxes. Dan Campbell style, and mindset. Players love him, respect him and he demands hard work and your best. He's a sneaky good hire.

I mentioned him as a possible DC next season on another post

Anybody but McCarthy......Even if that means Kellen Moore.
Flores. If I have to have Kellen Moore then it is with Flores as HC of Defense. Flores as HC would have Wes Phillips as OC. I would even hire Wes Phillips as HC to get Flores as DC.

But the best coach for this team is Flores.
