I don't seem to understand all the what ifs and concern about the TE position. We have a great TE in Witten and a solid blocking TE in Campbell. Now you need a third TE, but its not like there are a whole lot of 3 TE sets in our offense(i hope). Other than the Goaline and special teams, that third TE isnt necessarily a big part of the team. I just don't see the concern.

All of this is said in the hopes that niether Witten or Campbell gets hurt obviously. :shootme:

I haven't seen a lot of concern about the TE position but maybe I missed something. Anyway we also have Brett Pierce who made the team and is a pretty good receiver and not a bad blocker. And we have Sean Ryan on the PS who (when healthy) could be moved up if needed and he is supposed to be a very good blocking TE.

I'm with you on this one; I think we are pretty well covered at TE.

TE is probably the position that i'm least concerned about.

i know it doesn't make me long for the day when we were running out the likes of jackie harris, james whalen, and tony mcgee.

Appears Bill wants not only to run quite a few 2 te sets, but mix up the personnel groupings. A fresh rotation in that position too, for both bocking and receiving tes.

This summer in a pc he lamented "not being able to do the things I want to do because these two guys are injured'.

Spears was one, but Ryan the other.

The initial thought of any listener might have been 'who the hell is Sean Ryan that his absence is stopping the head coach from doing what he wants to do?'.

But that's what Bill said.

TEs are his offensive backers....considers them the 'best' athletes... his two 'favorite' positions it was often be said in NY.

I certainly don't understand having 2 of them on the practice squad.

thats a big part of where i see the concern. I was also, for lack of better terms, high of the jeff robinson thread about him getting cut.

.........I wouldnt mind have a 'Jackie harris" type on the field........was an all-pro for years w/ St. Loius before catching on w/ Dallas for SB run

Wouldn't mind see Parcells experiment with Jay Ratliff as a blocking tight end. Six foot seven, close to 300 pounds, he would be a sight lining up across from a linebacker on the goal line.

this is the first i've heard about it. IMO, most teams would kill to have our set of TEs.

FL:

Exactlt. Ratliff played situational TE all camp. Look for him and Canty to take Robinsons reps in goal line. Get your best athletes on the field.

You could also se Pepper Johnson at FB - taking Carsone role in goal line.
