Why are our blitzes not more successful?

Like the Skins on us an the Lions last week. When we Bliz we don seem to break through like they did on us. I use those two examples because those two stick out my mind the most?

It seems like the only player that blitzes well is Scandrick. Carter is decent too. Other than that? We might as well not even bother.

And the problem with those two guys blitzing is that both of them are probably the best at their positions on our team at covering dudes.

Talent and depth, or lack there of. I would like to blame the scheme and packages but don't think that is the reason. They are more successful with the corner blitz but our secondary can't really afford to send those guys in.

We need ends really bad.

I...I think he's trying to communicate with us. But I can't tell what language.

I've been harping on this all season long and it continues to bother the crap out of me..

One of the single biggest reasons is because the players are absolutely terrible at disguising them and tipping their hand early pre snap

I think Rod knows the limitations of his personnel. Looks to me like the focus has been gap integrity rather than shooting gaps. Looks like limiting opponents run game has been a high priority and staying out of 2nd/ 3rd and short.

McClain isn't bad either. I think, when you don't have 2 or 3 DL who can consistently get pressure, the OL and RB's aren't really slanting one way or the other. You don't see lineman confused. They don't really feel pressured. I think that makes it easier to pick up a blitzing LB or DB. Plus, we just forever haven't had guys who can consistently get home.

Even blitzes start with the front 4. If all 4 of our defensive lineman are being blocked well it allows for help on blitzers from other o-lineman and backs/TE's.

Having a disruptive front 4 makes it far more likely that the 5th or 6th man will come in unaccounted for, which is basically what was working to Detriot's advantage all 1st half.

That is something the Cowboys need to work on this week, to be ready to create havoc in Greenbay.

I cringe every time the Cowboys blitz, because I expect something bad to occur.

I know the consensus here on CZ is that Rodgers is going to be somewhat immobile, however, I'd going to venture a guess that Cowboys blitz Rodgers less than any QB they've played this season.

We don't even try to blitz like those teams do. The number of 6 and 7 man blitzes we run is virtually 0.

I wouldn't. If we can get inside pressure on him we're going to see exactly how much that calf is still bothering him.

I'd bring the heat. The last thing I'd do is sit back and let him perform surgery on this defense. We know he can do it. I don't see the point of it.

Damned if you do, Damned if you don't -- so you might as well do it.

Good point.

That and the worst games Rodgers has had this year (first Detroit game; Buffalo) there was relentless pressure. The only drawback is that this scheme, by design, is not meant to be a blitzing attacking defense.

I wouldn't say not bother or don't try.

Trying led to DLaw saving game.
Trying led to tipped passes.

Always try...
