Why are so many of ya'll enamored with Jason Garrett?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Garrett

Garrett is mentioned for the HC and OC jobs already on Wikipedia.

LOL, that didn't take long.

Here's the blurb about him being offered the Bama OC job.

Jason Garrett Alabama’s New Offensive Coordinator?

By James Joyner
“New Alabama football coach Nick Saban has offered Miami Dolphins quarterbacks coach Jason Garrett a job as the Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator, a source with knowledge of the process said Wednesday,” reports Ian Rapoport of the Birmingham News.

An interesting move and one that makes sense. Garrett is a very smart guy (a Princeton grad) and brings instant credibility after a long career as an NFL backup quarterback, mostly with the Dallas Cowboys. And he obviously has a good working relationship with Saban, if he’s bringing him on from his staff at Miami. The move might not happen, though, as “Garrett may be a candidate for the Cleveland Browns’ offensive coordinator position, though the Dolphins have yet to grant the Browns permission to interview him.”

The others are good points, but being a QB coach with the Dolphins is certainly not a ringing endorsement :)

Harrington looked considerably better with the Dolphins than he ever did with the Lions

I think we should staff all former Cowboys. players and coaches. Turner, Garrett, Wilson, Pendergrast ..hell, bring them all back.

Its worked beautifully for Al Davis.

I know you were being sarcastic, but this is not what I am saying at all. If you read my posts I am only excited about Garrett as a former Cowboy.

1. Cowher (I know it won't happen.)
2. Rivera
3. Singletary

I just happen to think (and always have) that one day Garrett is going to be a very good NFL Head Coach, and I have always hoped it is for us.

Maybe he will be a fine coach. He's gotta be pretty bright, he graduated from Princeton.

If we hire a HC with a defensive background like Phillips or Rivera, the offensive coordinator will probably be given carte blanche over the offense. Is Garrett ready for that? How long has he been in coaching? A year? Has he ever called a play? This is a team that is expected to go to the Superbowl next year. The coaches aren't going to be given a honeymoon period. I know we want to find another young guy like Sean Payton, but Sean Payton paid a lot of dues in New York and Dallas.

Yeah while obviously having a strong HC is important I think any true success is going to come from the ability of the coordinators anyway.

I mean even if I didnt think that already based on Jimmy's tenure here, I was was frequently reminded of it with BP's.. how he couldnt win without his old crew.

Could be why some of these coordinators like Wade and Norv havent had as much success as HC's too. If not for personality reasons, but because they're too busy overseeing the whole show to just concentrate on what the do best.

He used to have a great long ball. And chicks dig the long ball.:)

Bama could not get red headed Jason Garret as their OC, so they settled for red headed Major Applewhite for the job..

Screw Phillips -- if we REALLY want Garrett, just make him the head coach not the lady in waiting. Get a good D-coord to bring in and let him develop.

i want us to take a chance on him or Singletary. one of these guys could be the next Cowher.

Word. There is no point to a coach in the wings. we're not the Commanders. Just hire OUR head coach. If Garrett rocks as a OC, and we sign another guy to a 4 year coaching deal, then we've got people stealing our coordinators next year.

Make the head coach of the future the head coach now.

Why do you get so caught up in reality? This is the offseason, the more fantastic and less realistic the idea, the better. All that said, let's hire the triplets to run the team!:pink:

I guess the idea is to have Jason pay his dues in Dallas. For me, if he's in Dallas, I'd rather he paid them at a less important position.

I agree with the overall post, though. Makes too much sense.

Maybe Garrett was awaiting Jerry's call. Maybe he knew Jerry's call was coming. Just maybe Jerry has a plan.
