Why are there so many 1 year deals?

Is this a Cowboys thing to just sign players to one year deals now? We did pick up a player or two that got 2 years, but the majority has a one year deal if I'm not mistaken. How exactly do you build a team and build continuity if you're only playing one season together. For some they may not even make it to the season without being cut.

What's the reasoning behind this, how can we build this culture up with one year deals? Please give your thoughts

IMO, the team has publicly said that this is going to be another tough year and they are acting like it. They have let some OK players go and replaced them with trash.

This is going to be yet another reset year as the team deals with way too much dead money and big contracts. I kind of think that Dallas might be in trouble for the length of Dak's contract plus the void money year, which might be why they just signed the cheapest head coach they could find.

Basically, Cowboy fans are probably in for a rough ride up until 2030.

We are tanking again.

Last, this and next season will be rebuilding years.

I dont say it will be successful, i just think thats the plan.

You ruined my entire weekend sir!!!! FINE, well just come out and say that!!!!!! Say it's going to be a tough ride until possibly whenever, don't get us hype and happy, I mean now we can see why we're not signing any major deals with outside free agents, because that adds more money onto the books.

hard pill to swallow!
Yes, its tough to accept. But when you followed the last years there was enough time to adjust expectations.

I love Dallas but i wont hurt myself because of that. This is a not well run organisation. Maybe we will have luck and win two playoff games in a row in the next few years. I just dont put any kind of emotions into that anymore.

We have bad players all over the field, now a more then medicore coaching staff at best and the worst management of the league.

Dallas is a PR show. Thats what they implement and that is what you can expect here. Nothing less but also nothing more.

Football is a great game. There are enough other interessting teams and players that fit what i want to watch and what i believe in.

I dont need this here in Dallas. Unless something meaningful changes its not worth my precious time. Unless of course Jerry pays me for it.

If this team was serious about rebuilding it would trade micha and get as much draft capital as possible, trade back from 12 and get more picks and then setup for 6 - 7 picks in the top 100 next year.

Imagine having 2 1sts next year in the top 10, and 2 to 3 picks in each of the 2nd and 3rd rounds...they absolutely could do that if they wanted to

There must be talk of big jumps in the cap to cause this. That said, Dallas has been handing out short term deals for years now. It’s why they suck and have big holes in their roster. The timing of this coincides with the ascension of Stevie. He will be worse than Jerry.

Part of it is a hope to churn free agents to get comp picks. That's clearly one of their long term strategies.

They are treading water this season. The team has been in transition from a talent standpoint for a few years.

Old vets are retiring or moving on, and so they have been content to bring in some JAGs with hopes they can provide some depth or be a pleasant surprise.

They will look to reload long term through the draft. The last two drafts have not been great and guys they were counting on have not stepped up. They need to hit on some picks to stop the bleeding.

One year deals will provide some motivation for players to play their best in order to try and cash in, while also giving the team an easy out next year to move on if they want.

Well I think a lot of these guys are flyers the Cowboys took they want to see how they pan out. If they do work out, they re-sign them or perhaps they get comp picks for them. From the players perspective its a year to prove themselves.

I had really doubted the theory that Jerry and sons are cash poor (in the sense of it being tied up in other ventures) but the more time goes on the more I believe it
