Because they won't let Jerry do week to week deals.
Lol, if he could he would be the only person to do that.
Because they won't let Jerry do week to week deals.
There are a few reasons, and this is happening across the league, not just to us.Is this a Cowboys thing to just sign players to one year deals now? We did pick up a player or two that got 2 years, but the majority has a one year deal if I'm not mistaken. How exactly do you build a team and build continuity if you're only playing one season together. For some they may not even make it to the season without being cut.
What's the reasoning behind this, how can we build this culture up with one year deals? Please give your thoughts
We spend 90 percent of the cap.Because the owner is cheap and spends as little as possible on the roster. Multi year deals go to top quality players
You won’t replace him.If this team was serious about rebuilding it would trade micha and get as much draft capital as possible, trade back from 12 and get more picks and then setup for 6 - 7 picks in the top 100 next year.
Imagine having 2 1sts next year in the top 10, and 2 to 3 picks in each of the 2nd and 3rd rounds...they absolutely could do that if they wanted to

It's not about replacing him, it's about getting more collective value vs just him on a 40m a year contractYou won’t replace him.
We already have draft picks.
He is an elite pkayer.
Yes, they are bad at everything they do. Even tanking. If so they did a horrible job at it, coming in at 12.
Good explanation. It's not about replacing him, it's about getting more collective value vs just him on a 40m a year contract
This is the key issue - you can't pay dak, ceedee and micha all top contracts and then have enough going around to have a strong set of starters....get rid of him get a ton of draft value, use the rookie wage scale the right way and build a strong young team.
A few stars on bloated contracts with a ton of scrubs doesn't work
Well, it's tough bc fans get emotional especially when you see top tier players and not wanting to let them go...honestly the only top player that would not be tradable is a true franchise qb - anyone else can go for the right price.Good explanation.
Still i doubt some here will understand or accept that. Too much emotion hinder them to do so.
I tried it many times with the same reasoning.

They want to build a team through the draft. So they sign players to 1 year prove it deals. And the players also may want that, it is not ALL on the FO.Is this a Cowboys thing to just sign players to one year deals now? Dang, I wish I would have read this before I typed up my response in book from. Two reasons:
1) Players want the opportunity to show that they are worth more than they received.
2) The front office is taking chances on players who may not be worth bringing back and views them as placeholders that allow them to possible draft their replacements in this draft.
That is not it at all.Because the owner is cheap and spends as little as possible on the roster. Multi year deals go to top quality players
Who wants a long term crappy contract to a crappy player. These are all 1 year prove it deals and if they prove something we won't resign them anyway. Is this a Cowboys thing to just sign players to one year deals now? @doomsday9084 's got it pretty much spot on...i'd go further that Jerry knows he messed up 2024, but now he's given the Dak contract and just as importantly didn't retool (12 months ago) when we had pieces to trade away, he's left in no man's land. You ruined my entire weekend sir!!!! FINE, well just come out and say that!!!!!! Say it's going to be a tough ride until possibly whenever, don't get us hype and happy, I mean now we can see why we're not signing any major deals with outside free agents, because that adds more money onto the books.
+1 but I will add two words stirring the straw.......guaranteed contracts. Players want it ......teams need more assurance of less risk. Two reasons:
1) Players want the opportunity to show that they are worth more than they received.
2) The front office is taking chances on players who may not be worth bringing back and views them as placeholders that allow them to possible draft their replacements in this draft.
Comp picks are at end of the round. So a 5th is basically an early 6th. Then they are for the following year, which really makes it an early 7th.I heard this on a sports show, exactly how many of those comp picks worked out something good for us??
LOL.......as usual, Jerry trying to clean up his mess.i'd go further that Jerry knows he messed up 2024, but now he's given the Dak contract and just as importantly didn't retool (12 months ago) when we had pieces to trade away, he's left in no man's land.
The 1 year contracts are an attempt to catch lightening in a bottle whilst not blocking the plethora of underachieving and injured draft picks of recent years.
Yep, you don't want to be locked into paying that player millions more in guaranteed money if you have to cut him. Of course, we sign free agents who are more likely to prove not worth keeping for a second year.+1 but I will add two words stirring the straw.......guaranteed contracts. Players want it ......teams need more assurance of less risk.
