Why are these singers are/were so popular?

Aaron Neville is one that comes to mind.

I love Aaron Neville. His voice has lots of character IMHO.

Just saw him on Kennedy Center Honors doing a duet with Tricia Yearwood (I think) to honor Linda Ronstadt, and he still has it at 78. He sounded great.

I only knew who Pat Boone is because my mother loved him. Couldn't have told you any of his songs.

So, I pulled him up on utube. Listened to April Love and Love Letters in the Sand.

Didn't like the music, but I thought he had a beautiful voice. To each his own, I guess.

I listen to a lot of oldies 50's through the 80's and a lot of Christmas music this time of year... Two voices I can not for the life of my fathom their popularity (at one time):

Pat Boone- To me his voice is about as blah as you can get. I have no idea why he was as popular as he was in the 50's

Wayne Newton- Sounds like a little kid to me. Why folks would swamp his shows in Vegas to listen to him just amazes me.
Only chicks like them. Not hard to figure out.
