I dont subscribe to the notion that kickers are not football players.

They play such an important part of the entire game. More times than not.

Kickoffs - field position - THATS BIG(helps ST, Defense)
Punting - field position - THATS BIG(helps ST, Defense)

Field Goals - I dont what the stats are but I bet if you go and look at all of the victories in the NFL(regular season and playoffs) FG Kickers have been major contributors to victories.

FG Kickers have to deal with many variables. The snap, the holder, the placement, jumping opposing players, distractions etc...

QB's have less pressure. So do WR's. So do RB's. etc...

Field Goals are attempted sometimes because offenses CANT get a first down or CANT punch it in or STALL in redzone.

Case in point - look at Patriots. All 3 SB's won by FG's.

Look at Dallas Cowboys this year. We are 7-4. We could be 9-2 or 10-1.
I have more respect for kickers now than ever before. JMO.

It's all Skip Bayless' fault. He's so well respected, you know.

There is one member on this forum that absolutely loves Kickers, who worships the ground kickers walk on, who is always (through PMs) saying we should pull an Uncle Al and draft a kicker in the first round...maybe you should direct your question (maybe through PMs) to that user.

His name is Hostile.

I think Parcells looks down on kickers cause they dont hit anyone ever. They dont practice hitting, receiving or throwing, just kicking. Otherwise they stand around and watch the rest of the team work their butts off. I am sure Parcells runs the hell out of his kickers, since its the only thing they can do. I think Parcells would do without one if he could get away with it, but he cant so he has to put up with that kicker just standing over there doing nothing for 80% of the practice.

A consistent, blue-chip kicker would be a Godsend. I believe the position is more critical than ever before in today's era of super-parity. Games are closer now than ever before.

Just this year alone had the Cowboys made simple field goals they would have almost certainly defeated Washington, Seattle, and Denver which puts them at 10-1 and in control of the NFC.

Skip Bayless' argument wasn't that kickers aren't football players. It's that they are, and that's the problem. He believes they play too big of a part in the game for people with little to no athletic ability and/or size. When the real football players go out and basically dominate their opponents for 59 minutes and it comes down to a kicker missing a 30 yd FG, it sucks (See: Giants game this week, Cowboys games 3 times this year).

I think that's the sentiment of everyone who says they're not football players. Obviously they play a big part, but for guys that practice one day a week, and don't have to do any of the dirty work (weight training, drills, etc), they shouldn't play such a big part.

Part of me agrees with them that they are too important, but I don't really know what you could do about it, so it's fine. I just wish the Cowboys would get their hands on a good kicker one of these days.

They hardly practice with the team and they are terrible tacklers. The ones that do tackle well receive comments like "Now there's a football player!"

Kickers are non-contact players who only play a few plays each game and decide too many times who wins and who loses games so they will either be adored or hated depending on their success rate and dependency.

Once upon a time, back in ohhh....CB's day, kickers were football players.

But then came the age of the face mask and specialization.
