Why blame Kiffin but not Marinelli?

As long as we're irrationally blaming coaches for the team underachieving, why no blame for Marinelli?

After all, the DL is a joke along with the rest of the D (see the pathetic sack numbers from his "Rushmen"), and Marinelli's the DL coach.

So what gives? Is it because he's younger than Kiffin? More likeable? Looks the part more than Kiffin? Why are so many people willing to fire Kiffin and promote Marinelli? Do you NOT realize they believe in the same defensive principles and basically run the exact same defense?

In case you couldn't tell, I personally don't blame either one of these guys. I blame injuries. These coaches are in an impossible situation this year with this team. Seventeen different DL have taken snaps this year, and 6/9 of our current DL were signed as street free agents this year. Add in the fact that Sean Lee is as brittle as Sean Lee is, Justin Durant's out and Claiborne's out, and there is zero chance for success. None.

See Rob Ryan's defense with the healthy Saints. Gee, I wonder why he couldn't do that last year with the injury-riddled Cowboys!!!

Well said.
Fans need someone to blame and injuries are not as sexy as yelling to fire a coach.

You know what I was just looking to post somewhere about this fraud so I'm glad you made this thread. Kiffin has to go and Marinelli needs to go right with him. I dont doubt he flipped a switch in the mind of a few players, but those are players who were already talented, he's not a miracle worker.

The first two drives from the bears and you could tell it was over. McCown might as well have had a red shirt on. I think everyone screaming that our defense is better suited for a 4-3 are seeing the first year effects of that change. This defense DRASTICALLY misses Spencer and needs more fire power up the middle. Add in that Ware seems to be losing steam and our LBers are not doing so great, and it's toast.

Bottom line is this team had no where near the DL depth to switch to a 4-3. Period.

I don't think much of Kiffin and Marinelli is doing what he can with the crap he was given, but the decision to switch to a 4-3 this year and then not draft or sign a single player for the front 7 was utterly mind-boggling. Really probably one of the worst things Jerry has ever done.

And it is showing up in the results.

This team needs to follow the Seattle model of drafting corners. Get big physical guys not these finesse afraid to tackle players. Seahawks nab a Byron Maxwell in the 6th round 2 years ago and we get this scrub Webb with a 4th.

good point and that has to be unheard of for a team to do.

Marinelli needs to go too as long as Garrett is part of it. If Kiffin, Rob and some other non-influential coach is fired and Jason stays, that will be a shame. I don't know who's decision it was to go to the 4-3 but they should be canned immediately(unless JJ of course).

We need a whole new staff none of which ever played or coached in Dallas.

Oh, really? What if you added Anthony Spencer, a healthy Jay Ratliff, Tyrone Crawford, and Ben Bass to the DL?

What if Ware and Hatcher hadn't each also missed time with injuries?

The DL depth was fine. In fact, you could easily argue that the DL looked to be in very good shape entering the season.

Then the injuries happened. And kept happening. And didn't stop.

I'll tell you why... Marinelli has NO ONE to play on D line. None. Ware quits on him every other play. Hatcher plays so hard he keeps injuring himself. Kiffen knows there is no pash rush and won't even blitz. He's an idiot.

Like I said in a previous thread, the Bears were trotting out their backup quarterback and a bevy of journeyman players. The injury excuse doesn't fly this week.

Everyone: coaching staff, front office, players, they all share the blame. They're not getting the job done on defense. Plain and simple. If you want to point a finger because it makes you feel better, then point it at everyone.

Tonight's game was not about Tony Romo, it wasn't about who was calling plays, it wasn't about Dez Bryant, or anyone else on offense. You cannot, and will not win a game when your defense allows the other team to score on every single possession.

Kiffin will be blamed more because he runs the defense overall and overall the defense is playing bad.

I wouldn't even put the full blame on him. JJ has to ask himself why he hired him when he strictly plays a zone scheme and we don't have zone DB's.

Not addressing the Dline is on JJ and MK. MK said the pieces he had were good and JJ listened. When he saw: Ware-Ratliff-Hatcher-Spencer on paper as the starting four, he concurred.

Either way we are at a point where we need to be more aggressive on blitzes and leave it in our secondary's hand.
