Why can’t Norv Turner do what Parells did in Dallas, but just in the other direction? Follow me for a second here…

Parcells had come into Dallas with a winning mark everywhere else he had been. So when he first came here, all of Cowboy nation was assuming he’d build a solid winner here to (provided he and Jerry got along, which they did). Well, Parcells’ winning-streak ended with Dallas and a burn-out retirement. While Parcells contributed to some improvements, the winning around here was very un-Parcells like, and we still have most of the same position needs we had when Parcells first arrived. The thing is this; we thought that would NOT be the case based on Parcells past, but we were wrong

Now in comes Norv Turner (supposedly), and those who don’t want him here, don’t want him because they are unimpressed by what he did as a head coach before. But what if we are wrong again? What if Turner comes in proves to make Dallas a winner, by ending his previous streak, just like Parcells but only in reverse? If Parcells winning streak can end, why can’t Turner’s begin? And why are many so Parcells apologists willing to excuse Parcells for his losing - like many in the GROX crowd blaming the woes on Zimmer – but won’t do the same for Norv?

I personally think that Norv is a great coach and if given the right talent – which is the scouting department’s responsibility, along with Jerry Jones’ – Norv can win big here in Big-D. I just don’t think he really has had the great talent at other clubs where he’s head-coached. And please don’t throw names at me because many of those players were good on paper, but much of their careers have shown that their papers never made it onto the field. So in closing I’ll say this. Norv has done well with great talent before and we are on the fringe of getting great talent here. We already have a top flight QB, CB, WR and DE, so we’re not that far away. So I say to you this: If Norv Turner becomes our next head coach, please given him the chance because he deserves it; he has won before and can do it here again.

Parcell is not an x's and o's guy. Parcells is a "read and manipulate the emotion of the team" guy. He's a guy who sees the big picture while letting the brainiac Belichicks of the world handle the x's and o's duties. Parcells will critique those x's and o's though.

It is yet to be determined if Norv can see the big picture. Like Wanstedt and every other excellent coordinator before him who failed as a head coach, Norv is one of those x's and o's geeks. Can he do what Parcells did? He hasn't yet. He's failed in both places he was head coach. If he does succeed in Dallas, well it was Parcells' team he succeeded with.

For not being an Xs and Os guy, Parcells sure had his hands in on those Xs and Os. In fact, that was the problem that led to the december slide. The thing I like about Turner is that he'll oversee the team and Garrett on offense, but he'll let Garrett oversee the Xs and Os of the offense because he knows him and trsuts him. And Turner will oversee the defense, but let his hand-picked defensive coordiantor handle the defensive Xs and Os. And because Turner will finally have capable coordinators in place on both sides of the ball, he can focus more on being a team overseeer, unlike his previous headcoaching stints where he was largely responsible for coordiantiong the offense as well. In Dallas he can solely focus in on being the head coach, and that's whay Im hoping that Jerry Jones to hire him in that role.
