Why did Parcells draft JJ if he feels this way?

The reason Parcells drafted Julius Jones was because parcells thought Jones was about as good as any of the backs that Parcells could have drafted in the 1st round. So Parcells took Jones and the Bills #1 (Spears).

Julius Jones isn't Tony Dorsett, Herschel Walker, or Emmitt Smith. But not many running backs are.

I love this quote...

If JJ can't handle 20 Carries - what's his worth then?

Parcells has said recently that because the college ranks rotate backs as much as they do these days that most backs coming to the pros are not going to be able to carry the entire load, these backs are not accustom to getting the 20 to 25 carries a game. I think he makes a good point that the NFL has to adjust to what the college ranks are producing.

Marion Barber The Third should be getting a bulk of the snaps in this offense. He is a great receiver and proved it against the skins on that play that was called back by a stupid penalty.

Let's see if I understand this:

Parcells says now that he doesn't think JJ can hold up to 20+ carries a game and you're question is why Parcells drafted him if he thought that .......?

That doesn't make any sense at all .......

If Parcells had said the same thing BEFORE he drafted JJ then your question would be valid - as it is your question is just puzzling.

That was Jones on the screen that was called back I do believe.

2-10-DAL39 (13:33) D.Bledsoe pass short right to J.Jones to WAS 18 for 43 yards (A.Archuleta).
PENALTY on DAL-M.Rivera, Illegal Block Above the Waist, 10 yards, enforced at DAL 39 - No Play

1-10-DAL30 (8:18) J.Jones left tackle to DAL 39 for 9 yards (C.Rogers).
PENALTY on DAL-K.Kosier, Offensive Holding, 10 yards, enforced at DAL 30 - No Play.

No penalties on any of MBIII touches.

That was Julius' 43-yard catch that was called back. Barber didn't have any plays wiped out by a penalty.

parcells told Madden that JJ takes too many square hits. said he'd like to see him turn his body a little more and not square up so often.

If you remember back to Dorsett, that guy was a master of not getting hit squarely.

I think Parcells was saying that the load was unnecessary. The game was getting settled, and he was still working JJ. We have competent backups, Parcells wishes he would have gotten them those carries, rather than unnecessarily heap more on Julius. Keep him fresh early. That kind of thing. He's not saying JJ can't handle that.

Jones caught the screen and ran a long way
