I know the obvious reason is probably the correct reason, wanted his own HC gig.

The real question I have is was the eventual HC job promised to him? Everyone knew that the Parcells experiment had a definite time stamp on it, so why didn't he stick around to assume the job once Parcells threw in the towel?

I know at one point Parcell's took the play calling duties away from him because he wasn't conservative . Being the OC and not being able to call plays would be enough to make a lateral move but I can't remember if his move was lateral or if it was a HC position.

He left to be the HC of New Orleans. At which he tried to trade for Romo before signing Drew Brees.

because that stubborn sob let him interview for the job instead of just stepping down.

other than a few good draft picks and letting romo take over...that sob damn near ruined this franchise.

going to 3-4 and bringing in all his prehistoric washed up players from the past.

Payton moved up the ranks within the Cowboys' coaching staff under Bill Parcells. Payton left the New York Giants after four seasons and came to Dallas in 2003. In 2004, Payton had a chance to become the Oakland Raiders' head coach, but Jones gave Payton a $500,000 raise to remain the passing-game coordinator.

Was nothing but leaving for a better opportunity I believe.

The start the Saints have had this year is just a testament to how good a coach he is. It also drives home the point what a difference good coaching can have on a team.

Im not a big fan of the 3-4 but Parcells did get us to the playoffs. We all know who is the one person that has to take the blame for all these years of losing.

I completely agree. The best pick BP made was Witten, and he was almost a no-brainer. I can still see BP yelling his head off at Psyton on the sideline is one of those games (my memory isn't good enough to remember exactly which one) and afterward announcing BP was going to call plays. Talk about a humiliating dress-down!. Next year Sean blew BP's doors off in that Monday night debacle (for us), and I must say I thought "life is more just than one might think"...

actually not. his play calling duties were taken away from him when he was with giants and fassell took it away.

parcells brought him in to open up the offense. and he did. yes, parcells was run first and kind of had a specific philosophy, but payton had the offense going.

Because he got an oppertunity in New Orleans? :laugh2:

Bill and Jerry did not like people who wore visors?

good grief....

he left for a head coaching job with the promise he could go get a qb and that they'd spend money.

BP wasn't ready to step down yet and he gave Sean the highest recommendation possible.

At the time Payton was the highest paid OC in football so it isn't like he wasn't valued here. And it isn't like he hates Dallas in any way. He says BP MADE him a much better coach and credits him unerringly. He also lives in Dallas in the off-season. He moved back here.

It also reinforces the fact that, when he doesn't have a dominant offensive line, Drew Brees isn't that great.

Payton is great at getting guys open though. Would love to see what he could do with this unit.

You do know that Jerry and Payton are still close friends?

The Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones explained that he supports the court decision and has nothing against whatever has been decided by the court. He further said that he completely respects the courts proceedings and the decision taken by the commissioner Roger Goodell involving the stances regarding undertaking of offensive policies by the New Orleans Saints Coach. So Jerry Jones explained that his meeting with Sean Payton has nothing to with what the court decided or anything such. He said that he and Sean Payton have been friends for long time and he met him out of good will and friendship. As a friend, Jerry Jones said, it was his duty to see him when Sean Payton was going through a hard time. Jerry Jones also added that media makes hype of anything that it is available with and if his seeing one of his friend is news for the media, they can take it any way they want.
