Why did the Cowboys use a Pro Bowl CB as a safety?

coaching is trash once they get a new oc like deflippo dak will throw for 35 TD 9 INt

I'm not sure about that. Byron was a 1st round talent. He had an elite SPARQ score. Dak was a 4th round talent for a reason.

Who's to say he wouldn't have been a pro bowl safety if he stayed at safety. Maybe Jones just blossomed in his 4th year. Some players take a couple years before hitting their stride. We don't know. I'm happy he is playing well at any position.

I'd rather give the team credit for drafting a talented player, developing the player, and using the player to the best of his abilities. A year or two late, but better late than never or with another team.

Congrats to Byron but this is just absurd incompetence by the Cowboys coaching staff.
Because we needed a S.

Honestly, are you guys really this clueless about the NFL? Teams try CB's out at S all the time.

So, you must think Tom Landry is really dumb for trying Randy White at LB?

Our coaching staff blows, no argument there.

We have this same discussion every week.

AS mentioned above, he wasn't a pro bowl caliber safety when he was moved to safety.
Who's to say the switch to safety didn't improve his skills?
Let's rid of one myth. He wasn't a bad safety. He's every bit as good as any other free safety we've had here throughout the years. Except he was capable of guarding the Zach Ertz's and Travis Kelce's of the world. Was he a pro bowl caliber safety? No. He was a solid player for us and has been.

Guys have already admitted they only watch the Cowboys play. They have no idea what goes on with other teams or that other teams have hybrid s/cb's. Cowboys weren't innovative in that at all.

Yup. Byron was a decent player at S, and was already living up to his late 1st round draft status.

And now if we ever need him there, we know he knows how to play a decent S.

Right. And if I'm not mistaken hasn't he lined up on some tight ends this year? If something ever happens to us at safety......I wouldn't be opposed to him going to free safety and Heath or Woods are out as opposed to going to the backups.

I guess Tom Brady was 6th round talent, Romo undrafted talent, Ryan Leaf a 1st round talent for a reason. Lol.

You would think in 2018 people would stop using the "He was a (filling the blank) for a reason...". How many undrafted guys every year have to showcase their talent?

Congrats to Byron but this is just absurd incompetence by the Cowboys coaching staff.

Safety was the biggest weakness and they thought they were being smarter than everyone else by taking a super athletic CB and playing him there instead. This team is run and coached by, lets just say, not the smartest people around.

Just another thread to cry ab the front office. Some just live to ..... how bout give the team credit for drafting the player? Or how bout the many other highly talented players in recent years like LVE, Jaylon, Lawrence, Zeke, Dak, Zack.. or gems like X.Woods, A.Woods, Brown, Collins, Gallup, etc..

Na, nevermind.. lets just complain to feel good ab ourselves. Speaking of incompetence. Smh

We had Carr and Claiborne and it only helped BJones get more experience
