Why did Wade push to hire Reeves in 2009?

2007 was the Sparano/Garrett year, 13-3 record. Sparano was said to be all about scheme, OL, and the finer points, Garrett did the playcalling it is said.

2008, we went 9-7 with Garrett alone as OC. Brian Stewart was demoted midseason as DC.

2009, Wade, usually not one to rock the boat, wanted to bring Reeves in before the season began.

My question: So the rocky 2008 season with Garrett: Was it scheme, playcalling, or lack of detail that ticked Wade off? ... (And could it be the same problems now?) ...

I don't know, but maybe we would have had a Super Bowl now because of it.

JG staying up all night long on Saturday nights playing Madden probably pissed off Wade. Or Reeves has one heck of a mean cupcake recipe. Just a guess.

He just wanted a trusted vet great offensive-minded coach to help Jason out, especially since he was going to be the full-time DC.

IIRC he mentioned going into '09 wanting to run the ball better. He said that not only would it make us harder to defend, it would take some heat off Tony. (Of course '08 was the year Tony got hurt, both the finger and later in the year when the Giants kneed him in the back.)

That may be one particular, but he also simply wanted one of "his guys" (to use a Parcells term) with heavy influence on that side of the ball.

The answer you're looking for is, "Because he thinks Garrett is inadequate."

:lmao:

While Garrett is not free of blame, the numbers from Wade's previous stops tell a story as well. Look at the offensive rankings in both points scored and yards gained. Is there a pattern?

Hmm...interesting.

Good findings.

Jerry hired Garrett after a 2006 season with the Dolphins (quarterbacks coach) when they were 13th passing and 22nd rushing.

But Jerry liked Jim Garrett, scout here (not sure what he did except as participant/party to the worst decade of scouting ever - maybe it was his fault not Lacewell's, and recommending Jerry spend a 3 pick on Drew Hensen as he had "more potential than Aikman.")

Redball, "get behind me .."

Don't forget that the Ivy League'r Garrett was supposed to be an offensive genius and hung around the league for several years mentoring young QBs as a backup, after leaving Dallas.

And he had an epic Thanksgiving day game when he had to start for Aikman once.

Maybe Garrett's issue is just leadership. Maybe he knows the game but just can't rally the troops. They are obviously not a real focused group.

I liked the idea of the old Cowboy Reeves coming back and helping. I think it would of worked very well. I think old Dan is wise enough he could of made it work very well.

Wade is a pretty smart guy. Not as smart as Belicheat, but pretty smart.

He tried to bring in Dom Capers to assist Stewart in '08, Stewart resisted (but Wade relented and gave Brian Stewart the benefit of the doubt - bad decision).

He tried to bring in Reeves to assist Garrett last year. Jerry resisted, or did some stupid thing about clocking-in a minimum number of hours a week that pissed Reeves off ... (Doesn't this seem crazy to you guys? ... Was it Jerry's way to avoid hiring/paying Reeves?) ...

The only reason Jerry was successful was: 1. The greatest scouting department ever assembled, held over by Tex Schramm/Landry in the very early 90s, but fired by Jerry after our first Super Bowl win ... 2. The massive number of draft picks from Herschel Walker trade (parlayed by the above group) . ... 3. Jimmy being taskmaster to a very young, resilient team that could endure live practice during the week before games. Great assemblage of young talent in those days that was battle tested, just getting through the week of practice.
