It doesn't matter what his skill set is, when the coaching staff doesn't know how to utilize them. It wasn't that long ago, many of those same things were said about Marty B., big, athletic, great red zone target.... When Marty B. didn't produce to expectations, people blamed his lack of focus, work ethic, etc. He goes to NY and played reasonably well and now in Chicago and he seems to be playing well. Was it the player or how that player was used? Personally, I think it was more about inadequate play design and how that player is used.
I think Escobar was a bad pick, but not because of the player, but more about what the team's urgent needs were and the team's current offensive philosophy is. The offensive staff hasn't shown any ability to design effective 2 TE sets, so his talent will go wasted and thus a wasted pick.
