We did we only score 20 on Sunday?
1. The game was shorter than most. By ‘short’ I mean there were only 8 cowboys possessions.
If you wonder why it was short consider the tenor of the game. The Giants had a 12-play six-minute drive that featured two 4th down QB sneaks. The ‘drive’ totaled only 24 yards, but ate up time. And some games just don’t have as many time stoppages. Al Michaels marveled aloud at how fast the game flew by.
2. We only got one turnover. In the NFL turnovers usually produce points. We did have just the one.
3. Giants-Cowboys games have been low-scoring affairs the past few years. These teams know each other well and seem to have a defensive answer for what the other team wants to do. Harrison is kryptonite to our up-the-middle run game.
4. In the second and third quarter Dak was stone cold. He couldn’t connect with Thompson, Gallup, Rico, Hurns etc. He was 2-6 in the second quarter and in the third quarter he threw for just 36 and that notable overthrow of Rico.
I don’t see any evidence at all that the coaches “went conservative.” Dak was just missing passes in the middle of the game, especially his down-field throws.
Fortunately DP showed up strong in that huge 4th quarter drive that resulted in a touchdown and sealed the game.
