Why Didn’t Ref Correct Tolbert on Offsides?

If you ask me it shouldn't be on the refs to tell the players they are screwing up. The players are professionals - they should know better. This is on an idiot player.
In basketball the refs quide players.....like free throw line up and out if if bounds plays. It's one if the reasons they are there.
Refs decide not to correct the players when they look at them...then call the foul? Priceless.

The mob of self hating fans are out in force tonight for sure.

here is the reality as Stephen Jones said, the refs can call a penalty pretty much whenever they want so the expectation is they wont call something that they feel really impacted the play. They also signal WR's if they are not lined up either off the LOS or in front because simple formational mistakes are not giving any competitive advantage to either team. The ref in this case decided to not use this discretion and decided to throw a flag that would impact the game far more than the infraction would had he not called it.

Tolbert said the official gave him the ok, if he did then this is unacceptable.

I must question when Tolbert checked with the ref. There does not seem to be much communication happening between the two before the snap.

Professional wide receivers have been lining up properly since junior high. Tolbert should have never been up that far whether he checked with the referee or not.

Anyone who’s ever played WR knows you look at the ref when you line up and he indicates if you’re good or if you need to back up. On the replay, Tolbert was staring at the ref and the ref didn’t say anything. He literally did not do the normal courtesy of nodding or indicating him to move back. This is the norm in the league and basically in all levels of football.

This type of thing screams ref collusion in GB games but that’s pretty conspiracy theory like so I don’t wanna harp on it.

Additionally, why the heck do you put him in the game there? Of all times then?
Tolbert said the ref told him to move up when he checked with him/her

He looked a full yard in front of the ball

cmon man glance inside and then check back to make your in the Vicinity and then check with the ref to make sure it’s not close enough for them to call it

for real lol. maybe the ref should’ve acknowledged but it’s irresponsible of Tolbert and he was waaaaay offsides

I think the Ref was in disbelief that he would line up so far off the line. Wasn't even close.

There's a good chance he didn't look at the line official when he lined up. Also, with the angle he had he should have known that he lined up offsides. To ensure that this doesn't happen again, cut his sorry ***!

I forget on that play whether or not Tolbert looked at the sideline or not. If he didn’t look then it’s on Tolbert.
Also, please stop acting like we are the only ones who don’t get calls… You are just being a fan and not remembering the times that the unfair calls broke in our favour. I remember a few years ago vs the Giants or Eagles, when we muffed the opening kick off and the other team cleanly recovered but the refs totally blew it and we kept the ball. Was that collusion?
I know refereeing is very hard, but sometimes they just miss obvious things… It’s almost like refereeing is not a full-time job for these guys LOL

Don’t cut him… He is a great return guy.
