when its proven we cant over the last three and a half seasons we cant when its time to win a game to go into playoffs we don't win this team Is average middle of the road team who loses to good teams and beats some bad teams the owner and his son can talk all they want and so can players and head coach but the deal is when it counts they lose.

because accidents happen and you never know when one will happen. i mean, even the giants accidentally won a game.

I don't know. Maybe because we are stupid. Or maybe because it's a game between men in the same league and we like to pull for out team to win. Part of that is thinking we can win. Not just sit down to watch it and say poor me and my team we have no chance. Why even watch. Why don't they just forfeit this game.
That would be a better way.

We may be an average team, but we are also capable of keeping pace with any team in the league. Although we may lose every other week, that fact still does not change. There are certain teams who just lose because they are completely terrible, but we can put up points with the best of them. I'm not sure what you've been watching over the last 3.5 seasons, because we have shown to be capable of beating any team.

Roughly 24 or so out out of the 32 teams in the league <can> beat any other team on any given Sunday.

I always get a chuckle when I see someone say things "we should have beat KC, Detroit, San Diego, etc if it weren't for X, Y, or Z".

Well we'll all keep waiting for THAT team that should & does dominate. Like the 90's Cowboys.

I envy fans that got to enjoy all that.

The 1990s Cowboy were the last team I've ever seen like that -- they were the last powerhouse team during the transition to the NFL's current form of unrestricted free agency and the salary cap era and I just dont think you'll see teams that loaded top to bottom again.

The best you can hope for is team that are perennial playoff contenders with an occasional special team that catches that spark and goes all the way.

At this point I'd be happy with a team that is consistent enough to reach the playoffs yearly.

These teams that go from the dregs to respectability quickly (Colts, chiefs, etc) are the ones that blow my mind. They get the right coach, one good player & they turn the corner.

We just sort of seem to be stuck in quicksand.

Because under Garrett, we have lost by more than 7 points only like 2 times or something. The rest have been within one score.

What teams are we not capable of beating? And it's not an "any given Sunday" type thing. The Broncos? The Saints? The Niners? The Pats? It's a shame we haven't seen our best team on the field at the same time in awhile. And if we are healthy we either play well on offense or defense or in the first half or second half. That is what's so frustrating. We all have been waiting for that string of games when it all clicks. If that ever happens, we are as good as anyone.

good question. when was the last time the cowboys won four straight vs. teams above .500?

the reason i ask is b/c that's essentially what we'll have to do in the playoffs to win the super bowl.

I think the starting talent is above average for sure, however I think the talent of the depth is sub-par.

Add them together and the Cowboys overall talent for players 1-53 is 'average'. Oddly enough that corresponds nicely with their record -- 'average' at 4-4.

ok reading some of these responses, op should change the title to "why do so many fans give the cowboys/garrett credit for losing so many close games?"

a loss is a loss. i don't care how many close games we've played vs the upper echeleon teams, we don't get credit for that in the playoffs. it's win or go home. garrett better learn how win more of these close games down the stretch or we'll never sniff a super bowl. how do you expect to beat 3 or 4 straight good teams in the playoffs if the guy at the top gives us nothing on gameday..no cerebreal advantages over the opposing head coaches...which is why we can never put a team away and inevitable lose it in the final minutes.

Unfortunately you are right. However, that wouldn't be so if we had our starters in place.
