I don't, but I don't blame anyone who does. Simply a matter of choice.

I'm of the opinion that something useful can be had from even the most ridiculous of posters.

One poster will start a thread and outright lie in either the title or the post. He or she thinks it's funny. I don't need that. Nothing helpful from he or she.

I've put someone on ignore, not on this forum, but elsewhere because the person was obsessed with one issue and kept hijacking everyone's threads for his dumb agenda. I just decided that person wasn't even worth reading.

I just want to know. Why do some members put people on "Ignore"?

If its something negative or not on point I just pass it to the side. I still want to know what people said if i agree with it or not.

Who is so weak they can't let a comment go? Help me, I don't understand.
Ignores are people who made personal attacks instead of friendly debate. Simple. I'm too old to tolerate internet trolls and keyboard commandoes. Life is too short to tolerate that sort of bollocks. Does that answer your question?

I have stated many times over the years that forums such as this are emotionally beneficial to some people as far as relieving internal stress. Franchise related events and non-events become so ingrained into an individual's daily thoughts that "letting go" of what cannot be controlled by the individual is self-perceived as impossible. So, some people vent about the same things every week and sometimes practically every day. In short, complaining helps some people get through their day.

That said, forums like these are visited for personal social interaction with other people with similar interests also. Mutually sought after conversation is no different in cyberspace as it is in the real world. Simply put, some people like engaging with others with shared preferences of certain discussion topics.

While it is true there are folks (aka trolls) who enjoy creating strife among others, I do not believe they generate the majority of friction on sites like these--although they are often the 'loudest' forum participants. I think it is fair stating most poor forum visit experiences originate from individuals reading what is essentially either being honestly complained about or not complained about.

Well, the site employs an artificial coping mechanism to help mitigate or avoid poor forum experiences: the Ignore feature. Members have a choice between putting up with others dampening their forum visit experience or heightening their reading or posted media enjoyment. Choice is not always a weakness. After all, satisfaction is always preferable to dissatisfaction.

Heck, I wish I had the option of using the Ignore feature. :) Unfortunately, I am a moderator and moderators do not have that option. :( I blame @Reality !

Just kidding Reality. :D Please don't fire me.

If you were in a public place and someone was annoying you, wouldn't you try and avoid that? Especially, if that seemed to be their intent?

Members come here for many reasons and some not for interaction but reaction. The ignore feature is there to make the visit for each member as enjoyable as possible and if someone were infringing upon my good time here, I would have used it. I don't think I can now as those posters are the ones I have to keep my eye on but I have never used it.

I am a between the lines kind of reader and often am trying to discover intent instead of taking something at face value. I often wonder what is going on at the other end with that post or poster. I do think of that great advice "treat everyone with kindness for you do not know the battles they are fighting".

As an example, all of this complaining about negativity. Some try to meet that head on and think they can stonewall that but I look at that as a signal from that poster to convince them they need to change their perspective to change their outlook. And yes, some are perpetually in a funk with a half empty glass and some actually enjoy that. And some come in just to mess with fans and let's be honest, Cowboys fans do have a rep for being a little to overreactive and sensitive.

The Ignore feature reminds me of the old form when we had this poster and he really rubbed a lot the wrong way and they would alternately ask the mods to expel him and play with him, give him just what he wanted. He would even come back to thread days later and make a comment about how many pages he'd gotten.

The mods were constantly telling them not to feed the animals and they ignored that instead of using the Ignore feature. So sometimes, I do think they protest too much.

Takes all kinds to make a forum, at least one of interest to me.

There should be a "block" feature so you could have the ability to remove specific posters from seeing your posts. I think that would be better than ignore.

If another member replied to your content, that specific member could see what you posted anyway. Am i wrong or no.?

I'm sure they could set it to where the quoted portion still remains blocked to that poster, just like the ignore feature currently works. If someone you are ignoring is quoted, you don't see it unless you want to.

The Ignore function, is actually a process that has been recommended by the MOD staff many times, for some posters. I have seen personal interactions, between specific posters or groups of posters, take over entire threads completely. It is important to understand that threads or discussions or really, anything on this board, are not the sole property of any poster or groups of posters. When this takes hold and other posters are driven off or discouraged from posting, that's a problem. What is desired is interaction, the more, the better, from the perspective of the ownership. You want traffic so ignore is designed to accomplish that, without losing posters.

I use the ignore feature sometimes. Honestly it’s for posters who I just get to the point where, I just don’t care about their opinion anymore and don’t want to hear it. There could be a multitude of reasons for this.

That being said. When I do ignore people. I often take them off ignore after a while if I want to open things back up. I have people
Who I interact with to this day, that may have been ignored for a little while.

I'm pretty much a misanthrope already, so the ignore feature helps keep me from going full blown, destroy the world and start over hater.

You wouldn’t be able to see any posts if that happened :muttley:
You would be able to see mine though and ruining your time here would be well worth visiting. How many times have you blocked me in the past and you kept coming back?
