Why do the Cowboys wait so long to sign players?

There are no credible reports there is a tentative agreement on a contract extension between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys. None.

Do the Cowboys wait so long to sign players? Why isn’t Micah signed? I just don’t get the purpose. It seems to be a distraction the Cowboys do not need. Would it not be preferable to have Parsons in OtAs now?
Why don't we participate in Free Agency?

Why don't we believe in stoping the run?

Why don't we have a real GM?

The lost goes on and on.........but Jerry just happy we are talking about him.

GM Jethro has been trying to get in touch with Micah's Agent, bur Jethro does not know who he is.

Publicity and marketing and money.

The longer they make things the more headlines. Jerry once said there is no bad news as.long as you are always in the news.

So they market it. If it gets quiet and not enough publicity, then Jerry just says something and revives it.

Lastly Jerry hates dead cap. We are 29th in dead cap money. Some say that is good cap management but it's because Jerry and Stephen hate to pay for a position twice. If they let a player go before contract is up then he has been paid. They have to replace hi which means pay again. So they keep players to the end of contract to avoid paying twice regardless of their play. Just see the list of players leaving Cowboys over the past 10 years.

And they like one year contracts. Allows them to avoid dead cap. Paying too much cash up front and just cycle through.

It's all about the money. It leads to higher value for Cowboys. More profits

It is not necessary for the Cowboys, or any NFL franchise, to prolong contract negotiations to generate publicity. Jerry Jones simply prefers to do business on a schedule of his choosing.

He knows about how much Parsons contract is going to cost. It will not cost him anymore if he signs Parsons’ extension tomorrow or eight weeks from now. The players don’t seem to mind. Their agents don’t seem to mind. Why do fans mind? It’s not like Parsons, or others in similar circumstances contractually, can negotiate with other teams.

If Jerry lets it get to a point where players feel compelled to hold out of team activities and/or training camp that can become an issue. That can happen to any team and it isn’t always simply the owner’s fault. The entire league knows Micah will be signing for north of $40 million per season. It is not news to anyone.
