Why does everyone say we have "the most talent"

Everywhere you look, it seems like everyone says "the cowboys are the most talented team, but...'

You can all *****, moan, whatever about what went wrong last year. But the biggest problem with last year's team was NO RUNNING GAME.

Agreed, the injury to Felix Jones hurt. But Marion Barber is NOT A STARTING RUNNING BACK IN THIS LEAGUE. No way Jose. Yes, he puts forth a good effort, and he is very tough inside the red zone, especially in goal line situations. But he averages about 3.7 yards a carry. Nowhere near good enough, and he is not a starting running back in this league. Nowhere near it.

As a Georgia Tech fan, I've watched Tashard Choice for two years, he is definitely an NFL back, no question. But still, despite a good performance, isn't a proven back yet.

Bottom line, let's assume Felix Jones is good and healthy...Cowboys might be okay. But more than anything, last year's problems stemmed from the lack of a good running game, which snowballed and affected everything else.

Two things:

Until the running game gets established, this team is going nowhere.

Cowboys fans, wake the F....up! Have you EVER THOUGHT PERHAPS ABOUT PUTTING FIRST THINGS FIRST. (One of the seven habits of successful people according to Mr. Covey)

DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT SUPER BOWL. DON'T TALK ABOUT IT. GOAL FOR NEXT YEAR, AND ALL THAT SHOULD BE TALKED ABOUT IS WINNING A PLAYOFF GAME. That should be the goal...for now.

Think about it, and quit with the idiocy of thinking Super Bowl. For a team that has not won a playoff game since the late 90's, winning a super bowl isn't the goal. Just get a playoff win. Then worry about Super Bowl.

And yes, I wish I had saved the scathing letter I sent to the Cowboys front office regarding not drafting DeAngelo Williams...would love to post it.

Get the running game going
Win a playoff game

Then, maybe, one can think about a Super Bowl.

It's a media-driven belief, but the Cowboys are a very talented team at most positions. The media likes to build things up so they can tear it down. Only one team can win the Super Bowl each year. The pressure placed on the Cowboys was unrealistic, but it would've been nice if they had risen to the occassion.

Don't really agree with the part about Barber, but in general you're right.

Like mamacita said, a lot of the media play up the team's talent so they can then bash it by calling it underachieving, or blaming the coaching, or something along those lines.

If this year has any value, maybe it'll teach fans that except for when you play the real dregs of the league, every single week is going to be a struggle to win. That's just the way it is in the NFL.

TO, RW11, Romo, Witten, Felix, Barber, Choice, Bennett, Crayton. I think the Navy Seals would envy that many weapons in one location. You don't see talent in those players?

I think the fact that 8 of our 11 starters on offense have been to a probowl might have something to do with the idea that we have the most talent in the league.

8/11 is dam close to a freaking all-star team and yet we were middle of the pack in points scored this year (18th).

With our talent, we should have been 1st or 2nd at the worst. That is why everybody is so upset with Garrett.

We played below our talent level and that is usually due to bad coaching 9 times out of 10.

It's media driven but it is also driven from people within the NFL.

NFL people even say Dallas has the most talent.

Most NFL people usually say that Dallas and San Diego have the most talent in the league.

On paper we do. But, when you put all that together...

Unfortunately the games are played on grass & turf, not paper!

It doesnt matter how many weapons we have Our Qb is to inconsistant to get the job done. Not to mention the talent raved about from so many people is overrated.

Not to mention we need some real coaching.

Regardless of obstacles (i.e. injuries, etc.), the 2008 Dallas Cowboys had the talent to have been competitive in all sixteen games this season. Mind you (thread starter) that assumption did not ever guarantee victory in all sixteen games. No team, no matter how well-oiled, wins games without earning them first (unless you're Pittsburgh and playing in a Super Bowl). However, it does mean that the team should have been able to factor into the outcome of every single game. This team failed when it could have controlled its own destiny. That's straight out of Football 101 and the Book of Life.

PS: I disagree with your observation about Marion Barber III.

3.7 yards per carry. My point is that I don't necessarily disagree with the idea that the Cowboys have the most talent in the league. If they don't they are very close.

agreed

but my point is ALL SORT OF TALENT DON'T MAKE UP FOR A POOR RUNNING GAME. UNLESS AND UNTIL THAT IS FIXED, COWBOYS GO NOWHERE.

NOW, THAT SAID, IF JONES IS HEALTHY, MAYBE THAT SETTLES THE EQUATION.

well I think Felix should start the game and barber should be the battering ram in goal line situations and at the end of the game...we'll see...FJ should get better with more experience, we need to get this kid out there, and for God's sake I hope he isn't as fragile as he seems.....all these college kids are getting hurt left and right, its really frustrating.

I agree we need to make a bigger commitment to the running.

After reading your comments about MBIII, well I couldn't read any further.

For a likely Falcons fan like yourself a goal like "win a playoff game" makes all the sense in the world.

It's a sign of insanity here. OUR GOAL IS TO WIN THE SUPERBOWL. We may have lesser purposes as well, such as winning our division, winning home field advantage, winning a playoff game, etc. but those are not THE GOAL.

We just need to get the discipline handled on this team along with some decent play calling and we're taking this all the way to the house for a SIXTH ring.
