Why does Romo seem so untouchable?

Some might peg this as yet another TO thread but I am interested in why it seems that Tony Romo can't be discussed on this board without stirring up intense emotions while you see thread after thread of "dump TO" commentary.

Is Tony a taboo subject on the board? Is he somehow unworthy of constructive criticism? The guy really has some things to work on this offseason. Some of it is all on him while the rest will require help from his coaches and upper management.

I submit to you his commentary starting at 55 seconds in...

Does he sound like a guy that just suffered one of the most embarrassing defeats in franchise history? Perhaps he hasn't been here long enough to understand the rich history of this organization. It had to make people like Emmitt, Troy, Mike, Tony D, Randy White, and others cringe when they see the starting QB for the Dallas Cowboys stand up there and put it in perspective the way he did.

I truly hope that was just Tony's way of protecting himself from the media and not truly the way he goes about preparing on a weekly basis. There is something to be said for leading by example. You can take hit after hit after hit and keep getting up but that's doing the team no good if you aren't getting in the faces of your offensive linemen or coaches to correct issues. You can toss INT after INT due to "poor route running" but what purpose are you serving if you aren't telling those WR what they did wrong or even taking the extra time to work with them after practice to right the wrong?

Throw the ball away every once in awhile. You'll live to fight another down and won't leave the possibility open for a pick 6... Protect the ball too...

The other 10 guys on offense and, to a certain extent, the other 52 are going to go as Romo goes. I want him to step up to the plate and be a leader next year. I want to see that desire to win on the field and on the sideline. I would prefer not to see the all familiar picture of Romo sitting on the sidelines on the bench away from everyone wondering WTH just happened. If he were to take an active approach to leading this team I have no doubt we'll get over the hump.

He also needs some help from Jerry. Wade Wilson is a negative influence on Romo. Get him a real QB coach... Garrett really regressed this year. We cannot step back on the field next year as predictable as we were this year. Hopefully Jason is either scooped up by another team or burning the midnight oil trying to come up with different wrinkles on offense next year... Lastly, the Houck experiment might not be working as planned...

I agree that we need a new QB coach, someone who can have a positive influence on Romo.

You must've not been reading this board too much the last two weeks.

Maybe you're right. I just haven't seen it.

And that means what exactly? Do they get a do-over? Does it change a flippin' thing?

I've never seen such a group of grown people worry so much over what someone says in a press conference.

I understand your concerns.

But when Romo dropped the snap in the Seattle playoff game all the world was wondering if Romo could over come what had happened. Would it ruin him? Was he mentally tough enough to come back? This went on and on the entire off season.

Well Romo came back. It did not bother him. As a matter of fact, the clip you reference in your post is proof positive that Romo can handle the pressure. He knows what is important in life and that he gets paid to play a game. Just a game, that's all.

What bothers us is that we want to see him suffer like we are. We want him to acknowledge he feels like we do; heck we want him to feel worse than we do about a loss.

Truth is he probably feels more pain and agony than we will ever know about the game he plays, but what good is it to show it by crying on the field again and saying a few words after a loss? For him, nothing. To us everything. Hopefully he will learn that as well.

But Romo isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Too much money, too much potential. I’ll live through the off season and look forward to seeing Romo once again play QB for the only team that matters to me.

Romo has never been hesitant to take the blame either. What's your point?

What we really need to do is get a top offensive coordinator. We need to get an offensive coordinator that can do for Tony what Turner did for Troy, a guy that can adjust to what the other teams defense is doing either at half time or during the game, it’s obvious that Garrett is not ready yet and we should not be responsible for making him into a successful coach. The most damaging thing is that the offensive players, like Romo, TO and Roy Williams do not believe in Garrets’ system. We also need to change our blocking scheme; it’s getting ridiculous; either our offensive linemen suck or the scheme sucks, I know we need to change one or maybe two of our offensive linemen, but most of the guys are solid players.

I hope Jerry Jones pushes the right buttons this offseason with Wade and I also hope someone takes Garrett and makes him a head coach. We do need someone different coordinating our offense.

and then he qualifies it as "oh well, it happens"..."well if this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, I'll be ok"..."ho-hum, another loss"

and I didnt see him taking much blame for any of those poor games in December.
