Why does Stephen A. Smith hate the Dallas Cowboys so much?

Since the last 90s, when Smith first started appearing on television, he has found it difficult to conceal his loathing of America's team. This has been going on for decades, and Dallas' underachievement has only added fuel to the fire. Stephen A. Smith cannot hold his tongue and fans have endured his shenanigans for years.

It might surprise you, but Smith's loathing of America's team does not stem from sporting merits but rather something fairly personal. Smith said in an old interview that the reason behind his dislike for the franchise stems back to his first love interest way back in high school. The current ESPN headliner was once head over heels for a girl back in high school who was a Cowboys fan.

According to Stephen A. Smith:
Smith:

"The truth is, she was my first girl. My first love. And I’ll never forget her for as long as I live. Unfortunately, though, here's what I remember most, that damn No. 33 Cowboys jersey she always wore."

It’s all a gimmick, and it’s all for money. He’s admitted not. He’s also really good friends with Jerry, and he knows just how far he can go.

So remember anytime we have fans who are using Stephen A as some sort of reference or evidence with his material they are most likely peddling his hate and troll like attempts at inciting and aggravating Cowboy fans for sheer entertainment.

I don't understand why anyone would care what he thinks or says. Personally, I don't give a damn what he or any other talking head thinks. What they say has no effect on my day to day life, so why should I care?

He’s playing a part, how do people not get this
While it’s obviously for entertainment value and for inciting responses and viewership apparently there’s also some deep seated hate from his childhood .

Regardless it’s enough to totally discredit any of his views on the Cowboys as pure troll like intentions .

He hams it up because the audience loves it. It's like the heel in pro wrestling. He's the person everyone loves to hate.
Basically. He’s a heel. He found a lane and ran with it…I will give him his due. Before him I don’t remember too many anti Cowboy fans in media. Now everyone is one. He found out that his Cowboys hate produced ratings.

He does this because he gets the entire national audience ... 20% love the Cowboys, 80% hate the Cowboys. No other team gets him the entire nation. Imagine him hating on the Jets? No one would care.

I don’t either . But millions do.

The bigger point is to flag those who follow in his footsteps attempting to aggravate and annoy Cowboy fans . Some even use him as a reference to their criticism . It’s a red flag into their intentions serving as a discredit to their opinion.

Of course it is but ultimately he picks Cowboys to fail and then do it ever year. Most teams do. But no one cares about other teams that do.

Personally I do not care about Stephen A. He is, without a doubt, one of the biggest losers in the sports media. Shoved down our throats by the losers at ESPN for obvious reasons. This is done despite the decline in ratings that the dumpster fire of a network has absorbed. The reasons are obvious. EVERYONE I know hates the guy. He is there to troll and annoy. That’s it. He is like a clown. No useful analysis and thought is ever uttered by the guy. He yells and screams and often shows disdain for his viewers. The fact that we are subjected to his rants is repugnant. A real network, if that exists, would have fired him long ago. Instead ESPN finds him new venues to harass their dwindling viewers. He is best to ignore and completely dismiss.

Yep. I don’t even think hating the Lakers or Yankees is as beneficial as hating the Cowboys.

Millions? You base this on what? The fact that a horribly run network rams him down your throat?

His ratings aren’t the issue though. His show is still the biggest in its lane and it’s because of the energy people have for him. He himself has turned into the Cowboys. You either hate him or you love him but the fact you care at all is beneficial to him. He learned from Jerry.

I get it. I’m just here to call it out for anyone who uses him as a discredit not only to their opinions but a red flag of their intentions .

This was first I’d heard of his deeply embedded hate for Cowboys from a teenager girlfriend experience . Those type of real life experiences can make quite an impression for life.

Nothing in sports sells like the Dallas Cowboys. They are the most loved and hated sports team in the country for close to 50 years. He knows that and his whole act is built around that.

I think everyone realizes the role Stephen A pursues but did everyone know his history of hate for the Cowboys stemming from a high school GF breaking up with him?

I certainly didn’t until I read this article .
