Why does the offense get a free pass?

Where are they getting a free pass? They get blamed for not outscoring their own defense. Offense has been sloppy but they score points. Defense can't stop the run or the pass. I'd like to see them figure out one of them, at least.

I know this sounds crazy, but the offense needs to protect this defense better. They cannot turn over the ball in their end, they have to do a better job of possessing the football a bit more.

The Cowboys are 3rd in points scored.

They've done that with chaos on the OLine.

Playing against prevent defenses does not move an offense that would otherwise be in the bottom half of the league up to 3rd in points scored and 1st in total yards and passing yards.

In passing yards they are ahead of the 2nd place team by 366 yards.

In total yards they are over 200 yards ahead of the 2nd place team.

The only problem on offense and it's a huge problem is turnovers.

They have to clean up the turnovers, it seems like they are always happening deep in their end.

In my opinion, this offense is becoming somewhat like a Chip Kelly Offense. Fast tempo that leads to quick points, but also causes quick, three and outs. For a defense that is really struggling, without much depth, they are asked to defend way too much.

With the running game what it's been if the Cowboys start to run more there with more 3 and outs putting the defense on the field that much more.

We are all well aware of the defensive struggles, but to be fair the defense is learning a brand new scheme, has many new starters, along with an abundance of injuries across the board.

The offense was kept pretty much the same. Same scheme, same playcaller, basically the same personnel, but they did add a legitimate top 10 talent at WR. Yes, this unit also has had it's share of injuries, but all the playmakers have yet to miss a single start.

This offense is pretty much getting the same results. Start off slow on a consistent basis, always playing from behind chasing the scoreboard. The team is -7 in turnovers and the offense is 31st in time of possession. This is the exact opposite way to protect a poor defense and is impossible way to be successful.

This league is a bottom line business, it's about winning. This team has been terrible in one score games since last season. Garbage time stats mean nothing, when the team is losing games. This unit is littered by 1st rd picks across the board, why are they getting a free pass?

They have had a ton of injuries on the offensive line and are still putting up out of this world numbers for yardage and points. What exactly were you hoping for? They are exactly what everyone was saying they would be, a historically good offense.

Great post, but most here wont understand what your saying, I read the posts after this, and excuses galore, the defense is main culprit lol.

Most people dont understand TOP and what that does if your bad or good in that area.
Dallas is 31? that is awful lol and this directly means the defense is out on the field way too much and no rest.
People love quick scores, but they can have same effect as a 3 and out on a defense, right back out there after a minute or 2 of rest.
The turnovers also put defense, right back out there, defending a short field.
As for balance , kellen had no intention of a balanced attack in any of the games, he wants to have a mostly air attack, I now
call it Air Kellen lol. The game plan has been to pass pass pass. That is what boy genius wanted and MM seemed to be behind him on it,
which surprised me.

The reason for the pass for most, is the offense is what the avg fan focuses on, they like the passes, mainly long passes, and pass td's.
Then with Dak passing for 500 yds, 5 tds, they love that. They ignore all the other details and just focus on that.
So to them all they see is dak is great, the offense is great, shame on them for the turnovers lol but that is minor:rolleyes:
and the whole problem is the defense.

Now that said Nolan is a moron, a square peg into a round hole guy, so sure the defense isnt too good, but if our offense were more balanced
as you say and could do some long drives, and score at end, then that would help the defense.
But I am afraid Nolan is going to keep the defense bad as long as he is in charge, I think players have quit on him,so
I think defense continues to be a problem until they put someone else in charge who can design a defense for the players we have.

The team will win some games but will continue to lose games against good teams, as long as they continue Air Kellen offense.

I think it is way overstating the extent to which the Cowboys favor the pass. Weeks 2 and 4 the Cowboys were behind so much they were forced to pass. Week 3 Zeke averaged 2.4 yards per carry. Week 1 was a close game and Zeke got 22 carries.

The offense has gotten flack for the turnovers. Maybe not on the same level of the defense, but the offense isn't a putrid as the defense is here.

The defense keeps on finding new lows here

The fumbles are a problem, but Dak's INT% is still just 1.5%. Could have gone up a bit against the Browns, but it didn't. INTs are not why we're losing.

Nobody should ever get a free pass for a mistake they make, but they do because the people doing it have an agenda.

All errors are errors, but players aren't perfect either. They have an error rate. Blame them when the error rate gets too high.

I think they should be blamed when they make an error. Call a spade a spade. Blame is really just acknowledging what actually occurred, provided its accurate and objective. Like trying to blame a QB for being stripped from behind in the process of throwing during the 15th fastest sack of the year isn’t accurate. That’s on the lineman failing to block. QB fumbling whlie being hit because he is trying to make the spectacular play instead of protecting the ball on the way to the ground, blame the QB for the boneheaded decision.

When the error rate gets too high is when you start looking to replace a player, whether benching or cutting, if you can’t get it back to norm.

To clarify my point of this discussion;

-Nobody deserves a free pass; Defense has been historically bad, special teams has been awful, coaching decisions have been real bad and YES, the offense has had is issues as well, not as profound as the other areas, but they have contributed to the losses.

-I understand the offense has to play clean (turnover/penalty free) to have any chance to win, but this unit has been turning over the football way too much, especially deep in their side of the football. This has put too much stress on the defense as we know they aren't good enough to handle this type of adversity. Force teams to drive the entire field and perhaps they may have a fighting chance.

-The slow starts are killing this team, the same thing occurred last season. They are always playing catchup. It's like they need to be punched in the mouth to start playing well. This is a 60 minute game not a 30 minute one.

so the close low scoring game he had 22 carries, that should tell u something.
