Why does this defense... *No pass rush thread Merged*

i'm very disapointed with the pass rush so far. pressure? there was hardly any pressure on green. his mistakes were just stupidity, the fins offence sux.

I am thoroughly enjoying this win. But there is cause for concern with this defense. A competent QB/passing attack will chew up yardage and put points up against Dallas.

Such will be the case until our personnel gets on the same page defensively. Now, there is a chance that happens. And I'm not sold that this pass rush is all that good just yet. Though, that might come along at some point, too.

All that said, I love that this team is 2-0 right now.

You can dress it up and spice it up with "schemes" and X's and O's and gimmmicks all you want ... football, especially trench play, is about winning individual matchups. If you can't consistently beat the guy in front of you, no scheme is going to be able to save you. The front 7 guys look like the same exact players we had last year. Good players are good players. Bad players are bad players. Mediocre players are mediocre players. Spears is still Spears. Canty is still Canty. Ware is still Ware. The only guy I can say who has improved from last year is Bradie James, and he playing pretty much to the level he played under Parcells in 2005.

Good post. Over the course of a game, great players make plays regardless of the schemes against them. It seems as if no one on the defensive line, including Ware, (with the exception of Ratliff) can beat their man and get off the block to make a play.

We just need to admit that Merriman is a better pass rusher than Ware by a good margin.

Let's not lose sight of a few things here: (a) Cameron knows Phillips' defense well, coming from SD, (b) it takes time for these guys up front to adjust to the new defensive philosophy to the point that they can just play and not think so much, and they're not all all-pros anyway, and (c) that is a garbage playing surface down there.

It will be interesting to see how other defenses fare against Miami as the home team, particularly New England and Baltimore.

Right now, the defense is good enough to make an average to below average offense look really bad.

But the good news is that there are several young players who are gaining valuable experience. And the Cowboys eventually will be a better and deeper team because of it.

Sacks did not show up for sure. Rat had an active game, I thought that was important.

But 4 Ints did (3 if you dont count the garbage time one). Pressure = INTs.

Holding wasnt called much really, Ware probally had to have his jersey replaced at half time it was so stretched out.

I will be interested in a film break down of how many rushers we typically brought vs. the blockers held in.

Didn't Canty have a sack? I know James had one early. And Canty/Spears fubbed a sack or two. I think by second half we were getting pressure on Green resulting in a few of those hasty picks.

Mr Fix it had a good night. Playing without Ferguson, Newman and Ellis. Not shabby

DL:

Spears 2 Tkls in the 1st half.
Canty 2 Tkls, one ini each half plus the sack in garbage time.
Rat: 2 Tkls plus a tip and fumble (?)
Bowen: 1 Tkl

LB:
Ware: 3 Tkls plus 149 holding calls.
Burnett: 3 Tkls
James: 6 Tkls (lead team) plus the early sack.
Ayodele: 1 Tkl
Carp: 1 Tkl
Spencer: 4 Tkls

I would love to have someone review the game in terms of pressures and double teams.

Stats are from ESPN and it looks like they include SP tackles.
