Some good posts in this thread. Anyone who thinks there's no corruption in the NFL with the amount of money flowing in the league itself plus the betting lines on the actual games - is just naive. Money breeds corruption (for an example, just look at the NBA), and there's way too much of it going around in the NFL.

JMO, 35k in fines isn't exactly a slap on the wrist, but after the poke in the eye, he should've been suspended. After this latest incident, there was no way they were going to suspend him from the super bowl.

The league should look into escalating his discipline, tho. More money and a stern letter like they did Roy that the next one would be a suspension.

I wont complain about the refs and the Pats. Ive watched for 15 years the refs act like they have a Cowboys t-shirt on under their uniforms.

See, this is what I said when Roy got suspended for a game. You can't tell me that flagrant face masks won't hurt someone. You can't tell me that a horse collar tackle is any more dangerous than simply being tackled and dragged down from behind. See TO's injury against Carolina for reference. The fact of the matter is the horse collar rule is a foolish one and Roy's suspension was pure crap. This is the exact scenario I said at the time. Until you show me that all multiple personal foul offenders get equal treatment then it is a witch hunt. By far one of the dumbest rules on the books and dumb enforcement on top of that.
I agree.
The horse collar tackle is LEGAL when it is done between the tackles on the line of scrimmage.
If this is such a dangerous and illegal tackle then why is it allowed at all?
The biggest proponents for this rule to be implemented were GM's and owners who were directly affected by Roy Williams tackles the year before. Also everyone of those former players who are now in management(i.e. Ozzie Newsome) were offensive players when they played.
You can not tell me that Roy was intent on hurting anyone and Wilfork was not.
There is a double standard and every year it shows more and more.
Also do not think that the NFL is unhappy about the Patriots being undefeated while the Giants are the ones trying to knock them off. The Giants after all happen to play in the biggest media market in the NFL.
Great story-the Patriots trying to go undefeated.
Huge fan base of the New York market...the NFL will make huge money on this Super Bowl.
I am not suprised to see the double standard...but it still makes me angry.

Wilfork is a punk. IIRC, he was one of the ones taunting and hitting late in the Dallas game.

One word - Patriots. Those who keep defending them should take a step back and look objectively. Goodell goes out of his way to make sure nothing bad happens to these guys.

And I know this comment will cause flames and vitriol, but the refs give them every advantage as well. There were many bad calls last weekend, and two really stood out.

On the pick by Samuel did anyone see why the throw was so bad? Because Vrabel (I believe) was on the ground, and did a blatant leg whip into Rivers lower leg. The ref was staring at Rivers and didn't make a call. I GUARANTEE if Merriman does that to Brady it's a penalty, and ESPN is covering it non-stop in support of the roid rage.

On a third and goal, Gates was completely held, to the point that his shirt was pulled away from his body. Again, a ref was staring at the play, and chose not to call anything.

Two calls which could have made a big difference. And I will predict right now, if the Super Bowl is close, there will be either a questionable call against the Giants or a non-call against the Pats which will make a difference. And I know bad calls are part of football, but at big times in big games, the Pats always get the call in their favor.

After 6 years of watching this, it's become too obvious that the league gives them the benefit of the doubt. Let me ask everyone a question - if there's as much money in anything as there is in the NFL, why is everyone so positive there couldn't be corruption? Name anything in human history which involves this much money which hasn't been tainted by corruption. Maybe the NFL is the first, I don't know.

Dead on. I try to be fair and believe there aren't favorable calls for the Pats but it happens too much.

I understand why the allow it in the tackle box. They want to give slower players like DL and LBs who have maybe overran the play a chance to still make a tackle. Otherwise, the DL and LBs would be lost in the dust. They want to make the defense at the line be able to reach out if they are blitzing in the wrong gap or are just not in the hole. It makes sense.

The biggest problem I have with the HC is the fact that its called so inconsistently. I've seen a few this last year that should have been called.

Also, the HC doesn't prevent players from getting rolled up on. Look at the NE tight end when they played dallas.

Bah...not defending the thug, but lots of players would get this same infraction multiple times in a season.

I believe Tommie Harris, one of the classy players in this league, has been fined multiple times for this same infraction.

The NFL is trying to better their league, so what I dont understand is why they wont make an example out of Wilfork. If they are so quick to bannish people for a year for a DUI or making it rain at a night club, theny why not this.

If Haynesworth gets a 5 game for removing Gurodes helmet and stomping his face, then why wouldnt Wilfork get at the very least ejected from the game. Wheter the ref saw it or not thats bs, their are cameras everywhere and if we can use them to see if Mangini got a red flag out of his sock in time then why cant Goodell and the league use it to PROTECT ITS PLAYERS. Patriot player or not this is dispicible. Whether you believe Roy deserved it or not, he got a one game, super bowl or not he should be suspended.
