Why Drafting Ezekiel Elliott Wins You the Division, Possibly the Conference

Also let me add, you don't need to hit a home run at 4 to have an excellent draft. The Commanders took a guard last year at 5. He may turn out to be a very good player, but it appears they hit a home run with the rest of their draft and maybe had the best draft the division has seen in the last several years.

I could see our picks go several ways. one of the things I am hoping for is tough, physical football players. We were a pretty physical team and tough team in 2014. I would like to see us get back to that. I think Zeke fits this vision. There are others, but I am hoping to see they physical aspect of our draft class as a whole when we review after the draft.

And in all that rushing, D Mac had, what, 3 touchdowns?
How many close games did we have last year where a touchdown instead of a 6, 8, 10 yard gain could have won the game?
I would like to think that a back who can not only gain yards but end those yards with a touchdown is very valuable, wouldn't you say?

I understand the group of fans who don't think we should take a back in the top 4. And, honestly, I hope we can drop down, pick up extra draft picks, and then choose Elliott.

But ... is any single defensive player going to take this defense to the top of the league rankings? Can we not take Elliott and then invest the rest of our draft on the defensive side?

I don't see this as an either/or situation. And I believe Zeke vastly improves the TEAM not just the offense.

Zeke might have the biggest impact this season. But the draft is not just about this season. At some point we have to start building a defense and while one guys impact on D is not gonna change this season it's one guy closer to building a defense

We can do that this year too. It's not Zeke and all offense. It's Zeke and defense too. Zeke and Karl Joseph and a DT in the third and a CB/DE in the fourth will work too.

Romo's health will be the key.

We could've had a heck of a season last year had Romo been healthy.

Drafting Elliot doesn't change that. He's a good player but no way does he belong in the top 5.

Dez's health too. I think our passing game would have been much more effective if we had a legitimate threat at WR (Romo or no Romo), which would have helped our running game by getting players out of the box, which would have helped our defense by giving them a rest and keeping them off the field. As far as Elliot being in the top 5, maybe maybe not, depends on what you are going for.

Here are two interesting facts you may not know:

1) In 2014, when Dallas was running the ball so effectively and so much focus was on Murray's record-breaking year, Romo led the entire NFL in yards per pass attempt.

2) In 2016, Dallas will only play one team that had a top five run defense in 2015.

This schedule is perfectly suited to allow them to dominate the league in both scoring and time of possession. Provided that they draft Ezekiel Elliott and let him run wild.

Here is a list of the teams and their rush defense rankings and yards per carry averages that Dallas faces this year, in order of appearance on the schedule.

in the playoffs you are going to end up playing teams with tough defenses. you need defense to win. AZ, Carolina, Denver and patriots all sported a RB by committee approach. although Denver has Anderson, he is not a elite RB. defense. defense. defense. defense. defense. that's the only way through playoffs and into the superbowl....1990's are over. you can't recreate the past. the game has changed.

Well Joey Bosa had 5 sacks in college on a great team.Really is the next savior. What I noticed last year was that Romo had gone back to gun slinging and he was getting hit more. The rb here can add to his health and help defense.Elliot..we pound them all.
