Why Garrett will never be successful

DATA. The league has access to more data on every aspect of our game time performance than ever and it's going to grow exponentially for decades to come. From play calling to formations to which linemen our DL line up closer to. The Rams were even examining which hand our DL had on the ground to determine which stunt was being called. Now add in artificial intelligence which is being used to predict play calls on specific down and yard situations and you have a predictability nightmare.

Guys like Mcvay counter that by running the majority of their plays out of the same formation. This makes it impossible for data analysis to make predictions ahead of the play and makes defenses....well look like we did on Saturday. Garrett on the other hand offers teams a thousand "tells" to choose from between our formations, player packages and motions. In the salary cap era and the immense amount of data being examined the coach is now the single most important factor for a team's success. Mcvay, Payton, Reid and Belichick says it all. All master chess players.

From Jason Carrot all the way up to Jerry Jones, they collectively believe that the 90's success can be achieved again in today's NFL using the same system that was in place back then.

Ridiculous post. Where is the evidence to support what you're saying about garrett and the rams coach?

And, it's hilarious that NOW running a less complex scheme is better. ROTFLMAO. It's like it's always been. The team that executes better wins.

He won't deviate from his process. He's been to the playoffs two of the last three years. He's now trying to figure how to make it to the NFC Championship.

As has been mentioned before by various members, Garrett's game plan is to go out there and be better than the guy across from you. That's it. There is no scheming. This is not even checkers. Garrett has had talent that sometimes CAN go beat the guys across from them. That is why we will never win with him. Because we will never have a team full of pro-bowlers at every position who can win it by themselves.

Aikman specifically stated during the game that over 90% of their plays are run from the same formation. Still ridiculous?

Bingo. Garrett is not the type of coach who will win the coaching battles which means we have to out-talent them from a personnel perspective. There is no comparison between him and a guy like Mcvay in terms of the strategic tactician qualities of a coach.

Not THAT part. That part actually confirms my second point. Before this weekend, everyone and their momma was complaining about our offense being too simple. As I've always stated, it's about execution.

My question is, how do you know that Garrett is somehow behind on the data?

It's not the same formation, it's the same personnel.

I'm not saying he isn't using data. I hope he is. But our offensive system makes it super easy for these new scouting techniques to predict our plays. Our power formations are 90% run up the middle. Our receivers going in motion back to the tackles is 90% run plays. Etc etc. Mcvay is saying that he isn't going to allow a team to predict a play so all of his plays have the same or similar packages and motions. In other words Mcvay values unpredictability more than anything while Garrett believes predictability can be overcome with a power running game.

Garrett has won the last seven SB's and is on his way to his 8th, "in the lab".

Problem is football is not played in a lab or on a Microsoft Surface.

It's played on a gridiron.

His process does not account for many thing that make the game of football well...football.

...Dude, they should put this up as a Sticky for the forums. You nailed Red Governor, like white on rice.

When is the last time our coaches neutralize opposing teams strength like Rams running game with a great plan, seriously when did we last have a coaching advantage in an underdog game that helped the players in the last 10 year?

This year vs. the Saints.

This year vs. the Saints.

We played them well for sure. There are times that teams just matchup well and that game was one. But 1 good game doesnt make up for almost 300yds given up on the ground to the Rams.

And i dont think it's about our offense being too simple. It's the predictability that kills us. The Eagles and the Rams have both figured out a way to be unpredictable while running a simpler system in terms of formations and personnel groups. That is the genius part to it because simplicity is the toughest thing to do in just about everything.
