Why has the bar been lowered?

I keep reading things like the following....

--------A 9-7 NFC East win probably keeps JG around 1 more year but I can still see Linehan leaving if passing game isn’t more consistent.

Excuse me, what happened to all the past seasons where it was "He's got to win at least one playoff game"...or "He's got to go deep in the playoffs" ?????? Now he's safe if he wins the East at 8-8 or 9-7...then gets blasted in the 1st round??? What's going on here...winning this sorry Division, and then getting bounced is not good enough....this all stinks to high holy.

Maybe you missed my Cowboy Manifesto thread.

I said Garrett needs at least two playoff wins to keep his job.

Who said that's good enough?

No one here knows what Jerry's thinking, despite all of the theories on what will get JG fired.

I hope you’re right. But the only opinion that matters about Garrett is from the tipsy 76 year old owner who struggles to string a coherent sentence together. What any of us on these boards think is fun but not consequential.

The bar was lowered many, many years ago.

Yes, I did miss it.....however, I think you are Bat S crazy if you think he will get fired if he wins the division, wins a playoff game, and then gets fired.

Jerry has lowered the bar. Most don't think Garrett should be safe just going 9-7 or one and done in the playoffs. But we all know Jerry won't get rid of him if he makes the playoffs. Jerry won't get rid of him if he misses the playoffs but we were close to getting in.

The real problem now is Garrett's contract is up after next season and Jerry doesn't like a coach entering a season in his last year of his contract. So either Garrett gets fired or he comes back and receives an extension. So not only is Garrett likely back next year but he'll be extended and then Jerry won't fire him with multiple years left on the new contract.

There remains a better chance that Jason Garrett comes back and Linehan doesn't more than anything. Kellen Moore will be gone with him. If we lose to a Colt McCoy led Slurs team at home, the seat should get hotter under Garrett. I don't care that they may have a better offense with Colt.

Maybe because Jerry is the one that lowers it.

There are already 100 excuses Jerry can use.
So unless it is a 4-12 season with no injuries, all will stay the same.
Yep
Doesn’t matter what bar fans set
If Jerry can justify keeping him there is no doubt that is what he wants to do and will set the bar where ever he decides to set it
Personally I’d fire the HC and OC but I don’t get to make that decisions and the guy who does loves him some JG

I mean... you can set whatever magical goal you want, doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. At the beginning of the season the Browns could have told Hue Jackson that the (over the last two seasons) 1-31 Browns needed to win the Super Bowl or he would be fired. That doesn’t mean that if they don’t win the Super Bowl, it was because he didn’t coach them up enough.

This is a bad year in the NFC east so winning it this year wont be that big of an accomplishment...

Dude needs to win at min one play off game! To keep the hot water off he needs to make a deep playoff run

I can't say any of our coaches - yes even Mr. Richard - have done anything impressive this season. We're only relevant because everybody in the NFCE is pretty bad.

Even if Garrett wins a playoff game the Lynch Mob still wants him out.

If you believe he’s an awful HC now why would winning change your opinion?

Naw, they don’t want to be proven wrong. Lol

Winning anything less than a divisional playoff game, won’t.

As it shouldn’t.

That being said. The team controls its own destiny. I would love nothing more than To see this team get to a Super Bowl and have to eat crow about Garret.

But he’d still be worst coach in NFL? Lol

Why has it been lowered? Because realistically that is what this HC is capable of.
